Do you have a spare engine sitting about, and can you do the work yourself!
Given that you started a thread asking where the cam area is, I would guess you dont and/or cant. So no, I wouldnt buy it to fix up.

have you seen the car in question! my understanding is that it has a big end bearing knock.
Those cars are only about $2000 with lower kms and in good condition, why bother buying that and have to pour thousands into it to get it up to scratch!

Worth buying lol, HELL NO!A 15yo Diamante with 245K on it is stuffed, the only place it should be going is the crusher.Even if you could do a DIY engine swap the trans will go next. For what you would spend fixing it you could buy something a lot better, resale values are crap too because absolutely nobody wants old large FWD cars.Avoid like the plague.

I have a spare engine for one of these in my garage, and it's been on my watchlist for weeks as I too have been considering getting it as a 'do up', but for what the guy is wanting there just seems to be too much work which needs doing, it doesn't exactly look like the most cared for example so even when the engine is fixed up you just don't know what else could go wrong.

ok, why do u think i asked! duh if i knew it was a big job or would cost me heaps do u think i would be asking! i don't even know wot a cam is my question is is it something that would cost a few hundred and be all good or thousands, my question has been answered.

Where did you get the idea it was cam/lifter related! The listing only states that it has a knock, without going and getting a trained ear to listen to it, it would be safest to assume that its more bigend or even gudgeon related (two major bottom engine parts).

I think maybe the owner has told her that he thinks the noise is coming from the cam area.

There's nothing cheap about engine knocks! Could be anything there from lifters to cam bearings, cam lobes.sounds expensive. Get rid of it. Best to dtop it and move on to something better than fixing something, too dear i find. By the time you blow $2-3000 you could be in something better.

Flamers like to flame. We're not here to have a civilised discussion.
Those were nice enough cars once, but that one will be a money pit.
