Fuelsaver, another waste of taxpayer money.

When this site was launched I took a list and video down to the local MP because the site was so shoddy and many of the ratings were miles off what the manufacturer and others stated and were grossly misleading. Some changes were made at the time but it was still a useless, hard to navigate, pile of steaming feces that served no purpose given there were much better resources on the net already.

I popped back today only to see on the front page they have changed one of the cars (a 2000 Prius) back to another incorect figure. While it is more accurate than the original estimate of 1.5l/100km the site had its still miles off at 3.1l/100km. These are rated at about 5.1l/100km. if you are vegan, hold your mouth right and do the majority of your driving in the vacuum of space. It should not be on the front page of the site being boasted as the most economical car you can buy.

When will these Turkeys wake up and realise its better to have no site than to provide misleading information to people who are making expensive purchases. No wonder we have so many pathetic Prius's on the road.

They cant even manage to keep the Caps lock turned off for part of the main menu of manufacturers, a primary school child could at least do that!

If this was a private company they could be done under the fair trading act.

How much money this country would save if government departments did things properly instead of just "going through the motions" in order to spend their budget on what sounded like "a good idea".

No they are not.Japanese cars on that site are rated using the Japanese 10-15 cycle not the US EPA ratings.

3.1l/100kms is still incorrect, but not by as much as you'd make out.

Jazz is at it again, you seam to whine a lot, that time of the month!

So did I.

You whine all month.

Those ratings systems have always been pathetic. Some of the euro 6 cylinders and even the hondas get amazing miles for a petrol 6 while producing good power yet they get low ratings and aren't recommended by many. I'd rather drive something that will last 260,000km still running but worthless than a prius that craps out at 150,000km cause the batteries won't hold charge (the 2000ish models are starting to have this issue). However if someone can be lead so easy it's their money to waste, more cheap volvos and the like being dumped onto the market for me.

intrade, Apr 9, 3:47pm
world record holder is vw for line production car with lowest fuel consumption and its a lupo 1.2 tdi diesel . wonder if thats listed 2.99 liter for 100km distance

socram, Apr 9, 3:53pm
It is the usual rort. The only real advantage that the hybrids have over all the eco petrol and diesels is that when they are stuck at the traffic lights - where we seem to spend at least 30% of our local travel time, they use no fuel. We, on the other hand, lose out every time, as the engine is running but no forward progress is being made and the consumption from zero, accelerating to 50kph or to 100kph is what uses the most fuel.Once up to speed, or into sixth gear for us, the vehicles have a phenomenal range and are economical.

Totally agree with pollymay.I still maintain that the most eco friendly car overall is a Morris Minor 1000.I do mean overall too.Zero manufacturing costs now and will outlive a Prius and a lower overall cost and infinitely restorable.

thejazzpianoma, Apr 9, 4:12pm
Tis a slippery slope.

One day you are agreeing on some seemingly innocent common ground. The next you wake up to a yard that could pass as the carpark at St Peter's Basilica. Your coffee is too strong and the cup is too small. The family pet looks more like a blow dried sheep than a dog, and your favourite jacket has "Lambretta" embroidered on the back.

Oh, and you find yourself spending much of the day explaining that its a satin cow hide satchel. not a "bag".

rlr29, Apr 9, 5:56pm
If nobody already mentioned it, Prius drivers actually drive further and more often because they think they are saving fuel.So in fact use more fuel than other fuel efficient vehicles, ie diesels.

johnf_456, Apr 9, 6:11pm
I do agree as well if you going to post information on NZ government website at least have the correct info otherwise simply do not bother.

thejazzpianoma, Oct 13, 7:48am
Let the record show that at 8:11pm on Friday.
