WOW freaky as.we had a similar experience when following a scrap metal truck. Adisk of steel about this size a a hokey puck cameflying off straight at us(we were in a mini) luckily hubby saw it coming and braked hard. Said flying object hit mid bonnet, bounced up and skimmed across the roof. It left a ruddy great dent/tear in the bonnet and a huge scrape across the roof. Had hubby's reactions not been so quick I would have had a lump of metal lodged in my head as it was coming straight for me in the passengers seat. To say we were shaken but glad to be alive is an understatement. Unfortunately we didn't get a number plate or company name from the truck and he was oblivious to our plight so he got away with it. Had it been in the days of cell phones we would have rung ahead to the cops and had them nab him.

The object was on the road and was flicked up by the vehicle ahead of the casualty vehicle.

had that happen to me back in the 90's coming down off albany hill just rounding the corner onto the straight toward dairy flat , a wooden fence batten came from nowhere end first on the passenger side then flipped upwards. i flashed the council truck that had been ahead but they didnt stop, pulled over and couldnt find the batten anywhere but luckily found a hearth brush so i swept out the fragments and despite being well shaken carried on up north . one customer saw the van and asked if i'd travelled via bosnia. lol. still got a photo around somewhere. scariest one was colliding with a hawk at 140km (yeh yeh naughty me ) thankfully it hit on the wiper arms not any higher, still i counted to ten before it came down with a thud on road behind me.

Thats an eye opener! Thought the load on the flat bed was moving around and appeared to be flagged with a rag. Shame the quality wasn't higher. Dont think the vehicle in front flicked it up from the side of the road. The driver had a fast reaction time.
My dad was driving through Palmerston (yes, the real South Island one) and a loose chain from a cattle truck that was coming the other way bashed the B pillar of the Dubby.

I'll never forget driving through the Manawatu gorge a couple of years ago and watching a rugby ball size rock come bouncing down the slope, seemingly float across my bonnet, then continue on down. Missed me completely, but I had to pull over and take a few deep breaths.

Had the same in the gorge ,saw it coming and braked landed smack in the middle of the bonnet shattering both head lights.

Yep, a few years ago driving through some road works being done around the Hamilton main road/ airport road & had my drivers side window down, when a fist sized rock came flying through the window, passed across me to hit on the door skin of the passengers door.

Yep just watched that now on the news. The board was laying on the ground & was flicked up by the trailers left wheel. Frame by frame shows where the board come from.

Who the hell drives along holding a video camera recording a truck! I find it a bit hard to believe that the chunk of steel got picked up like that by the tyre. Think about it, at least 2 wheels on the car went over that steel and it was only the trailer wheel that happened to 'pick it up' I've seen vehicles run over all sorts of crap on the road and never seen any of it get picked up like that. Can't believe anything your see on the web these days.

DUDE . watch it FRAME BY FRAME . If it's bogus, then somebody went to a LOT of trouble

DUDE . have you considered for 1 second or longer that the towing vehicle track may be narrower than the trailer track !
I too have seen all sorts of crap run over by vehicles, and in many instances I have been amazed at the result, maybe you need to get out a little more.
The mere fact that you have never seen something happen, doesn??

you miss my point, and that is , it is bloody scary when a projectile (either flying off a vehicle or flicked up ) hits ya car, lol

If you watch th videi frame byframe , the piece of wood appears at 31 seconds, hurtling though the air at 32 seconds and hits at 33 seconds, I'd say that makes them exactly 2 seconds behind,,, ! It wouldn't have mattered if they had been 4 seconds behind the vehicle in front from the frame by frame footage it still would have hit the car but as in with our experience maybe just the bonnet or roof. It may have even been worse as it could of catapultedand hit other vehicles/people as well

Frame by frame you CAN see a dark mark on the side line appearing ahead of the wheel, just before thewheel hits it, that flows on through to be the length of wood
chargerchick,
Apr 8, 10:45am
Yep its visible on the road at 29/30 seconds before the hit gets flicked up :)
