We are looking at buying a new car. Does anybody know what car has the most room in the back seat. We need a car that will fit two carseats and a 13 year old. My partner is dead set against a people mover.

Commodore or Falcon.
I did this research myself to fit three car seats across the back seat for our grandchildren and we found nothing else in a sedan matched the VE Commodore we ended up buying.

falcons have good room, also the nissan maxima has good room. personally with 3 kids in the back i would go a falcon. we had a primera and one day i was stuffing the kids in and thought to myself 'i gotta get a bigger car, if this gets t-boned it's gunna get messy'.very next day the car was parked and got completely toasted by a huge truck.we bought a falcon and it was one of the best cars we have owned.very cruisy.

Hehe, they're OK if you want to spend $10K more than you have to for an overated head cracking tractor that bounces all over the road. But hey it's a Toyota and of course its vastly better than anything else lol. Agree with #5, the larger Jap cars like Maximas etc are worth considering if the Aussie metal isn't to their taste, the Mondeo/Mazda6 are also larger in the back than you'd think, worth having a look at.Can't speak for the Mazda but the later Mondeos also have the proper ISOFIX child seat anchors that all cars should have, a feature well worth looking out for.

The Prado also isn't very wide across the cabin.

We also have a labrador. Our budget is around $10 grand. Oh and the husband wants petrol.

3 kids and a labrador! Your options seem to be something with 3 three rows, or a wagon. Do you ever travel with all the kids and the dog and luggage!
