Give it death, and see if the gear changes are smooth, they shouldn't be notchy. Pretty good cars otherwise.

If you are getting the gen.1 model, check that the cambelt has been replaced.

A more general Honda thing to watch for - Water leaks around the windscreen cowling and through the tail light gaskets are fairly common so check for any signs of dampness.
Also beware of modifications especially to the suspension system - often its a retrograde step.
