Passing lanes are the safest place to complete a passing move. Seems to me should be legal to complete your passing move at up to 110KMPH at passing lanes. Allows you do deal with the nanas who dawdle along at 90kph and then speed up to 100kph for passing lanes. Also allows more vehicles to complete a pass in cues of traffic. ( sit back now and wait for the nanas to tell me im gonna die at 101kph)

yip and 150k if you have to pass them on the inside, and make sure you just about take off their door mirror and cut back in front of them too.see if they get the hint to keep left.

jkm, Mar 25, 5:10pm
So is that your driving style or are you nana #1

im_andrew, Mar 25, 5:21pm
But it is ok to pass at 110.
I do all of my open road driving (700km/week) at 110km/h, its the most efficient way of getting from A to B. No need to be pissing about at 100 wasting time and fuel if you dont have too.

wrong2, Mar 25, 5:24pm
& it is

why start a thread when you have no point

thejazzpianoma, Mar 25, 5:24pm
I did the math on this a while ago and from memory some of our passing lanes are actually too short for even one car to pass another doing 90km/h and stay within the legal limit.
Its another case of having to break the law to do the safe sensible thing. Pity I can't find the thread as it was interesting reading.

thejazzpianoma, Mar 25, 5:25pm
Why come in here when all you do is heckle and put people down.

wrong2, Mar 25, 5:25pm
if you get that from me, look at yourself

thejazzpianoma, Mar 25, 5:31pm
Hahahahahahahaha

jkm, Mar 25, 5:32pm
So is there a reference to say that 110kph for passing is "legal" as opposed to tolerated and at the mercy of the mood of the local copper.

twink19, Mar 25, 5:35pm
I drive Taupo to Auckland on a regular basis, every two weeks, and all the morons speed up in the passing lanes, going doen in the morning. here we go again

im_andrew, Mar 25, 5:37pm
Well what are you trying to achieve! If you want to pass at 110km/h, just do it. If you are worried about some anal cop pinging you for speeding, sit at the back of the 80km/h cue like every other idiot.

pandai, Mar 25, 5:40pm
+1

If I want to pass, I pass.I'm not going to stare down at the instruments, I'm looking where I'm going.

johnf_456, Mar 25, 5:42pm
Freedom of speech he can says what he wants.

jkm, Mar 25, 5:52pm
Hey to be frank if I want to pass i will.
I guess my point is being behind people who are trying to pass a truck doing 97kph and they only want to do 99 kph cause they are not wanting to break the Law. Takes them the whole passing lane to get past and the r est of the cue is stuck behind the truck!

johnf_456, Mar 25, 5:57pm
better than getting a ticket, on my trip out of Auckland today I saw a van right at the end of the passing lane on my way there and on the way back. Ticket vs getting there a little faster.

iginoi, Mar 25, 6:08pm
Hmmmm, calculating the time it takes car (n) to pass car (e) between point (r) and point (r) while not exceeding the set speed (r) within a certain distance (r) without breaking the law (d) certainly does sound like interesting reading, however I have to watch some paint drying right now. Maybe later :)

Speed if you need to (to pass safely) but keep smiling dammit! Grrrrrrrr

im_andrew, Mar 25, 6:11pm
Vans wont get you unless you are over 110

johnf_456, Mar 25, 6:13pm
Yeah but doesn't leave you much room for error, borderline change in wind direction would give you a ticket or gradient change.

im_andrew, Mar 25, 6:18pm
If you you are passing at 110 and a gust of wind just happens to hit you as you are passing a speed camera van, I think you can suck it up and take the $80 fine.

johnf_456, Mar 25, 6:20pm
You never know when a coppa could be hiding in the bush either than the points come along.

im_andrew, Mar 25, 6:24pm
Well you get 100 before you lose your license.

iginoi, Mar 25, 6:38pm
I thought they were required by law to be visible!

johnf_456, Mar 25, 6:39pm
since when in nz!

lookoutas, Mar 25, 7:22pm
Just pass the bastard!
