Hmmm started as normal to go to work, was have a fag while it warmed up and suddenly it made a loud shhhh noise under the bonnet, about 20 seconds later it did again! Hopped in and opened the bonnet and was met with a cloud of smoke. It was by now idling rough, when I put it into gear it stalled. After much starting and stalling I managed to drive it around the block. It was running fine by now but it has smoke coming out the exhaust! It still boosts but leaves a cloud of smoke. Needless to say I drove home and parked it in the driveway. Have used car number two to get to work. What are the thoughts of the experts on here! Blown turbo seal! or something else! Cost to repair / replace turbo!

Even better drain the car of its own fuel and make a mess. But in the hard note it is fixable.

see above, the turbo has gone if you can't read(post2). The turbo is knackered take it into a subaru expert if you don't know much about cars. Could be the turbo seals.
I also suggest you don't drive it has doing so will make it worse.

Thanks John, I sort of guessed that. I know enough about cars to know when to ask for help. What I currently don't know ( there are so many things! ) is do I start looking for a rebuilt turbo! is there a better unit than factory if the factory units are weak for example! also the approx cost of a repair. As for driving it, apart from the drive around the block this morning it is going nowhere until repaired.
