Mixing different brands of fluids

Mums car needs topping up of both brake and power steering fluid. Are there rules of thumb involved, or can I top both up with generic off the shelf brands from Supercheap etc! It's a 92 Toyota Windom, Always serviced for years at the local Toyota dealer. Are they likely to have used Toyota specific fluids, or just generic stuff do you think! Cheers.

brake fluid for brakes yes any brand will do it will be dot 3 brake fluid. For power steering it is likely just automatic trans fluid dextron 3.

Also if you need to top up brake fluid you want to check the brake as they usually are about needing new brake pads when it needs topping up or it is loosing fluids if they are not almost worn front or rear.

Just make sure that you don't mix mineral and synthetic fluids.
