"Thailand is becoming a powerful player in the Asia-Pacific automotive industry. Most new commercial vehicles sold in New Zealand are assembled in Thailand and landed under the free-trade agreement between the two countries.

Thai-built one-tonners include the Toyota Hilux, Holden Colorado, Mazda BT-50, Ford Ranger, Mitsubishi Triton, and Izusu ute.

Thailand landed 6563 of the 13,032 light commercial vehicles (under 3.5 tonnes) sold in New Zealand last year. Japan was next with 3317, followed by Germany's 892 and Australia's 864."

How many years before Falcs/Commies are built there! I give it 10 years.

jezz43, Jan 30, 9:37am
thank god scotty is on a ban. his head would explode

carstauranga001, Jan 30, 9:38am
Much sooner than 10 years.

kyussr32, Jan 30, 9:57am
Next time he brings up his favorite line of "Thai built Accords" .

jezz43, Jan 30, 10:09am
go on mayes, scotty cant reply, and im sure hes watching. let it all out

trdbzr, Jan 30, 10:13am
I did tell Scotty that the Holden Colorado was made in Thailand. He chose to ignore that comment.

richardmayes, Jan 30, 10:15am
Hopefully they will be built to similar standards as the Japanese cars that are assembled there.

kyussr32, Jan 30, 10:39am
The article says the Japs have "mirrored" their plants from Japan not only equpiment but work ethics.

Could be a significant improvement for Holden!

richardmayes, Jan 30, 10:41am
Nah, it all seems so empty and pointless, without scotty.

skull, Jan 30, 10:49am
In 10 years time there will likely be no Commodores or Falcons being built anywhere let alone Thailand. As a Mazda3 is currently the biggest selling model in Aussie I think even a blind man would be reading the writing on the wall.

zak410, Jan 30, 10:52am
Yep, modern dinosaurs they are !

ezekiel67, Jan 30, 11:23am
Plenty of other vehicles already coming out of Thailand: Fiesta, Mazda 2, Micra, Challenger, City, Accord, Maxima.

Did you know the Navara comes from Spain and so does the MB Vito.

with BT50's & Hilux utes in our company fleet, i'm guessing the new recruits are building the Hilux's & the seasoned workers build the BT50's. the Hilux's are pretty shabby.

gunhand, Jan 30, 4:36pm
I thought robots pretty much built them. Most ot the manual assembly is just put in place and tighten a nut, bolt or screw and thats assisted by lifters etc.workers dont make the part or where or how its located. Should be hard to get it wrong when everything clips together etc.Probably best to blame the designers.

savanna71, Jan 30, 5:52pm
Navara will be built my mitsubishi motors thailand as of 2012

treachug, Jan 30, 7:40pm
All NZ new RA series Holden Rodeos were assembled in Thailand since 2003.

moosie_21, Jan 30, 7:47pm
BAHAHAHAHA, I hope Scotty is reading this, everytime he mentions Accords now he's going to get mocked out of the room (not like he doesn't already!)

jezz43, Jan 30, 7:51pm
i doubt hes still reading it. probably went into cardiac arrest from not being able to reply

trdbzr, Jan 30, 7:55pm
I would hate to be his keyboard right now

jenny188, Jan 30, 8:02pm
did hear of many loose bolts and clunking noise issues on Tritons coming into the country about 5 years ago. Dealers were spending extra time on pre sale detailing before releasing them from their showrooms. Daewoo's and others here for 5 years and gone tomorrow!/Who knows

johnf_456, Jan 30, 8:04pm
Someone must be having a nice rage behind the screen. (:o

ezekiel67, Jan 31, 8:23am
Nissan must be nervous about that.

vtecintegra, Jan 31, 8:25am
Daewoo is still about, they're just wearing other badges now.

greeny, Jan 31, 4:50pm
Brother had an 84 Navara that was assembled by gms at Trentham

nave12, Jan 31, 6:44pm
It must be killing his poor fingers typing but nothing sticks.
