Kazbanz, do you think. I could fit a couple of 33m galvanised steel runners thin flat about 23939 wide with a few foot long flat

I could fit a couple of 3.3m galvanised steel runners ( thin, flat, about 2'' wide with a few foot long flat stays welded at right angles - they hold plastic poles and are used for dog weaving - zig zags - in agility) on my Camry wagon roof rack!
The seller says she could carry them on her Pathfinder roof - not sure whether they would have a longer roof than the Camry! No racks on the zippy 1800 red Spacio though incredibly roomy inside when all the seats are folded down!
If not, how far can stuff hang out the rear door - with a bra or white cloth tied on! Thanks

3.3 m would mean about .75m out the front and back of the roof racks. -I can't see any issue.

OK, so the front is over the bonnet, but what about the 0.75m out the rear, need a flag! Thanks.

I would as a matter of coursehang a flag off the back

Thanks for your help.

AND a / \ "V" string up from the front bumper to stop it waving

Why not hinge them at the half way mark !

mrfxit, Jan 31, 8:14pm
because thats how they were sold as 1 length

You can have up to 4m overhang behind the rear AXLE of a car, and up to 3m from the front edge of the drivers seat front overhang. That is an obscenely long way and IMO way too far for a domestic vehicle, but that is the law. So yes 3.3m overall is no worries. As for a flag, 1m overhang front or rear is the legal requirement, but as kaz suggests even at .75mit would be a good idea to put one out the back. Even a bike reflector if you are travelling with it at night.

HG--my thinking is that it might be angle pointing straight back so maybee semi invisible

Absolutely, no disagreement here. But if somebody is that close up your ringpiece than they deserve to impale their vehicle on it IMO.

Only stuck out a bit at the rear as Kaz said, but tied a white rag "just in case". I set the x bars as far apart as possible, used 2 bungy cords at each end and also tied the 2 runners together at each end. They didn't reach the end of the bonnet so didn't bother with a V tie down, drove carefully - no problems. Thanks for all the help.

Cheers for posting back with the results, most don't bother. Glad it went well.
