where is the Euro from!(Singapore or Japan!)

actually i just re-read the 1996 bit, so this question probably not so relevant.

phillip.weston, Feb 1, 5:21pm
my 96 Volvo came from Singapore so it is quite relevant.

Trying to think what euro 5dr hatch has a 2.5L engine. Is it 4, 5 or 6 cylinder!

jezz43, Feb 1, 5:24pm
couldnt be an alfa!

phillip.weston, Feb 1, 5:26pm
alfa 2.5 V6 is cam belt.

phillip.weston, Feb 1, 5:27pm
can't be a Golf VR6 could it! If that's the case they are 2.8L not 2.5L.

cocabowla, Feb 1, 5:58pm
my bad 2L not 2.5L , where the hot models come from

jezz43, Feb 1, 6:02pm
saab 900s!

phillip.weston, Feb 1, 6:09pm
if it's a 900 I would probably run haha. I love the look, but mechanically speaking they aren't the best.

cocabowla, Feb 1, 6:10pm
the saab gets good reviews online but what are they like for parts availability etc any personal experiences in here!

cocabowla, Feb 1, 6:11pm
1 eyed biased reviews maybe then !

phillip.weston, Feb 1, 6:18pm
And what country are those reviews based in! Sweden, the UK, even the US where they are quite abundant! As I said they are a cool car back in their day, but you said yourself they are extremely rare to see in NZ therefore parts are going to be difficult to obtain when required. At 16 years old and 190,000kms things are going to start going wrong if they haven't for the previous owner already. I recall they have transmission issues at older age/higher milage.

edangus, Feb 1, 6:48pm
Saab in recievership. I wouldnae be buying one (unless its $50.00)

cocabowla, Feb 1, 7:40pm
yeh it was probably the novelty of it that got me interested but more thinking about it says its not a sensible idea. looks like the jappa wins again.

thanks for the inputs .

cocabowla, Feb 1, 7:42pm
indeed. i'll let him know he doesnt have to come show it to me now , been offered a good deal from a friend on the jappa .

phillip.weston, Feb 1, 8:41pm
what's the jappa! I think at $1750 the Saab is still a reasonable buy.

cocabowla, Feb 1, 8:51pm
possibly is but cant really go past a 93 astina under 100k with cambelt done just 3k ago meaning it does almost 5k a year , its quite probably my last car and in the last 3 yrsi've only been doing about 7k . almost $2k is a bargain ( the saab was 1950 when i first saw it. )
the 91 avenir had done 236kwhen i got it and in 28 months cost over $3k in repairs & running and thats a common (ish) model.

gooddealz2, Feb 1, 8:52pm
I'd think at that price the Saab would be a good buy too.Plenty of them in existence. So what if you have to wait for a part.Look at all the car's trundling round from the last 50-60 years.they all manage to keep going.

foxdonut, Feb 1, 9:12pm
Newer Saabs are made out of American parts. Nothing fancy, there's probably heaps of generic brand stuff that will do the job.

You have ot ask yourself though.

"Do I _really_ want a Saab"!

cocabowla, Feb 1, 11:42pm
so one of you can buy it now

kazbanz, Feb 1, 11:55pm
Coco-e mail sent with odvios concern for you

cocabowla, Feb 2, 12:49am
! nothings come through.

vtecnet, Feb 2, 1:01am
I've noticed that there's usually a Saab or 2 at turners auctions going cheap, this probably isn't a good thing as people dump there dodgy cars there to be rid of them once at for all. well this isn't always the case. but I've done it a few times hehe, next up is my GOLF VR6 with its worn out steering back and noisy diff bearings in the auto tranny.
I was tempted to get a Saab myself at one time, comfortable car, but after some research decided against it.

kazbanz, Feb 2, 1:19am
sorry dude--um short version--the astina still has a low seat height

cocabowla, Feb 2, 1:50am
well, i have a cushion thats eased the discomfort i can always keep using but if it doesnt have a half broken inner door handle like the nissan did to hold on to should be ok.
