Can you use?

diesel oil in a petrol car to free up sticking hydraulic tappits! will detergent diesel oil harm a petrol engine! would you leave this oil in the same time as say magnatec!what sort would be best if this was a good idea! thanks

you could give it a shot it wont do much harm for a short term period but perhaps if left in there a while it could over-clean the insides (ie dislodge particles blocking leaks from partially worn seals etc).

What engine! Often something like Proma MBL8 works well.

you dont free up rooted lifters and most diesel oil is also for petrol engine unless it is specifically for diesel. if you want you can run diesel oil for a few hundred km and then drain it again but i doubt it will do mutch to fix faulty hydraulic lifters.

What sort of engine / year is it and what oil is in it now!

RB 20 Nissan 180 thousand KM.thanks for advice. seems like one.just taps on startup.fine when warm

Most diesel oil has suitable for diesel and/or petrol printed on the label.

MBL8.its a zink/teflon additive.expensive but it works.ive added it to high mileage engines and it shuts them up real quick.follow the instructions though

Correct . but for you AND others .
If it's primarily designed for a diesel engine, then THATS ALL it will have on the label . "DIESEL"
If it's designed as a "Multifleet"or "Suitable for diesel/petrol" engines, then it will be labeled as such
***
Multifleet oils are only really suitable for modern engines or fairly recent reconditioned older engines

There is a small to moderate risk that running ANY sort of cleaning oil or flush 'could' dislodge gunk or hard deposits that 'could' either block an oil gallery or remove a hard deposit thats helping to keep the engine running good at the current to higher km's.

Your's 'should' be ok with a few hundred km's on Diesel engine oil.
Doing that isn't magic cleaning but isn't as brutal as a proper flush oil

i think those nissian 6cyl engines are notorious for gunge blocking off the oil feed to the head. oil travels from block up past cyl/head retaining bolt
to cam/ lifter bits. this is where it gets blocked.
i once tried thinning the oil with diesel fuel and ran the engine for 30 min. it worked ( but if you fuck it you fix it )
you can also just remove that cyl head bolt clean the crap off it and return it ( retorque it )
