noticed my towbar has a braked rating of 1500kg and unbraked of 600kg. Thought perhaps it was cause my car is a smaller 4wd (isuzu wizard 2.4L). But noticed my friends bigger Isuzu Bighorn has the same rating on her towbar. Why is this! Is it the towbar itself! To tow heavier you would need a more heavy duty/expensive towbar! Found it interesting as the Bighorn is used to tow a double horse float with two horses and that would weight considerably more than 1500kg.

The towbar will have a weight rating it is capable of. But with the HD bars they also take into account a vehicles stopping ability. A bighorn for example will vary depending on if it has ABS or not.

yea construction of the actual towbar itself is what that sticker is specifying : not the vehicle its attached to
