Could you imagine VTNZ passing this

From todays Sideswipe NZ Herald

Cave-man technology on wheels

Europe is being hit by severe cold weather, expected to continue for another week. This hasn't stopped one enterprising man in Switzerland from venturing outside in his slightly modified Volvo. Since traditional car heaters are proving ineffective in the bitter cold, Pascal Prokop has built a wood-burning stove in his car, where the front passenger's seat should be. He obtained an operating permit for his stove-car from the Swiss Technical Inspection Authority, making it perfectly legal to operate.

Now if he could only pipe the waste gases into the fuel system he could be onto something else !

thejazzpianoma, Feb 13, 4:01pm
I agree, not far off from a woodgas setup. Only thing I don't like about woodgas (apart from the obvious compromises) is trying to get rid of the creosote tar stuff which can't be good for your engine.

the-lada-dude, Feb 13, 5:28pm
well its a long way from a wood gas burner actually,
all I/C engines require a gas cooler/ filter arrangement

friendly_prawn, Feb 13, 5:30pm
imagine the cops trying to pull him over.
he could just do a james bond and chuck some rubber onhis fire for a smoke screen.

the-lada-dude, Feb 13, 5:30pm
if the dick head driving( looks like one ) let his hair grow and skulled a few more vodkas, he wouldn't need that fireplace !

I do not know how the guy got a mfk that is the name for a wof in switzerland i know the wof will be 2 years they are strict as hell no split cv boot not a single drop of oil on the engine inspector has a list and if he finds 3 wrong things he stops the wof test and you get sent home to fix it up so it passes on reinspection. It is up to you to bring a roadlegal car to the wof and not them making a 2 meter long list of what is to be done. like mag wheels you need to register them with documents to your cars papers ad carry it in the glovebox when the cops want to see the documents .

bubbles244, Feb 13, 8:06pm
never heard of blinding the radiator obviously.

ema1, Feb 13, 8:27pm
Yes I know that fact hence the "Next Door"

ema1, Feb 13, 8:38pm
Yes I know that fact hence the "Next Door" in Germany. I have one from Germany made by Rombach & Haas in Schonach and an Uncle of mine had a big cuckoo clock from Augsburg.

thats the original clip he is not allowed to drive it with fire going, He wanted it so he can sleep in the car when he is pissed, and a other professional heater would be to expensive to install in to his old volvo , the driving was not on public roads while the oven was on. Originally he had 2 meter tall chimeney but the cops stoped him to often because of that . He just asked the compliance guy what was not right on having the oven in there and fixed that to comply with the rules.
