Which brand of Dexron 3

farmer25, Feb 14, 1:28pm
Hi All, had a mishap with my 79 caddy and lost 2/3 of the tranny fluid. The manual says I need dexron 3 so I went to both Supercheap and Repco and got completely confused. There are so many brands of it.Which would be best for the old girl as I dont want to stuff it with some snake oil brand.Thanks.

If it's marked Dexron III, that's the technical specification it meets. Anything beyond that is simply personal preference based on spurious reasoning.

As above, just get the 5l valvoline packs from SCA, D3 is merely a supercession of the old D2 which given the cars age would have no doubt been what it had originally. The packs are clearly marked what the are, you will come across type f fluid and tq95 on the shelf also, these are the wrong ones. Despite the dexron name being used universally to describe grades of atf its actually a GM trademark believe it or not.
