some people should not be allowed to own a motor vehicle, did a service on a car that had'nt had any thing done under the bonnet for 100k, the car had done 202k with no sign on cam belt ever been replaced the oil was like marmite and the a/t oil wasn't much better

Maintenance is just another form of insurance. Theres nothing wrong with just getting things fixed when they break or you need to for a WOF.

I asked a girl today when she last checked her oil as I know her car has oil consumption issues. Her response was 'when did you last do it!'
I did it about two years ago. Poor car probably wont see 150,000km
