MU! 4jx1, no start.

had diesel in the coolant, done all the seals, sleeves etc, was running, no start intermittantly, sometimes took ages to start, then would start and run ok, now its back, towed in no start, occaiasionally will but harder now, looking at oil pressure code on scan tol, possible oil p switch, oil in loom, anyone else had no start issues! we are the last in a line of workshops, as ya do!

I'd check Glow plugs, Relay, Inj pump, etc first

Old bighorn i used to turn key to get glow plug relay click 3 times then turn to start - worked every time like that !maybe this is similar

Oil in the loom was common from memory but could you tell us what viscosity engine oil are you using!

I thought this was the old engine number my old 2.8 had - sorry is this not the diesel turbo 2.8 version!

my mistake if not - mugenb i was talking about the diesel / injector pump - ie the ones that shit themselves and need new seals and orings etc then are fine afterwards

Again sorry i thought it was in reference to the 2.8 Diesel Turbo Mu . my mistake if not - or am i thinking of a 4jbx1 or 4jb1 or something - couldn't remember the model number but thought it was same one - ooopsy sorry

Your old 2.8 probably was a 4JB1, easy mistake to make, stand down!

Got a new oil pressure sensor and loom, will post results next week, seems very common fault.

erm there are quite a few variants of Isuzu Mu - 2.8, 3.1, 2.8 petrol, 4wd enclosed, 4wd ute, 4wd 4 door, Wizard etc,etc, etc - I was trying to find out what year and model etc it was (as i stated i confused my model numbers lol! - not hard to read what i was asking ! lol)

Yes, but there's only one with a 4JX1 motor and they are all three door, made from 1997 onwards.

2000 Mu 4jx1, they use high pressure oil to open the injectors, the injectors are fitted in sleeves that seal the water jacket and fuel rail, when the o rings leak, you can get diesel in the radiator and vice versa, which was what we originally had, had to fix that first, but it had a stalling hard starting fault as well, wasnt sure if it the same fault but no point trying to fix that while the diesel was leaking into the radiator. They also leak diesel and or oil and or possibly coolant into the cylinders and will hydraulic. (Great Motor), so after fixing the diesel coolant problem, still had intermittant staring fault. Only now did we get a mil and the code was high pressure oil high input, which indicated a oil pressure fault. When the oil pressure sensors fail you can see oil coming out of the injector loom by the thgrottle body connector. They will do this and display no problems though. but sinse that was all we had to go with, and after a few calls, told to replace the loom and oil switch, done and done. FIXED!
