Shelf after shelf of worthless junk

rob_man, Feb 16, 10:00am
but no pressure spray bottle for brake cleaner or degreaser. No urethane sealer either.
Repco and SCA you suck.

grangies, Feb 16, 10:05am
Otbury's sell excellent pressure bottles.

Colad is the brand name.

They pay for themselves in no time, when using for wax and grease remover.

Otbury's also sell a great wax and grease remover by coloutrend for about $80 for 20 liters.

All they are really focused on selling is shit and glitter unfortunately.

rob_man, Feb 16, 10:47am
I'll give their rep a call, he usually comes Tuesdays but I was delivering a car and missed him this week.
I've been meaning to get a new bottle for weeks after the old one wore out.

I wish someone would either change their model or a new place would start up that provides a big range of proper workshop/car stuff and is open at the weekends.

I know I would actually go out of my way to give themas much of my business as I can.

I would like the Supercheap/Repco size and layout coupled with affordable but quality brands like King Tony as well as higher end stuff. I would like workshop staples like rubber grease, CV banding tools, Hex and Torx sets etc to actually be stocked.

Some PROPER machine polishes, polishing pads and buffing machines not just a massive row of useless overpriced consumer junk.

If I want fishing gear or other unrelated junk I will go to a fishing shop or the warehouse thanks.

However a corner with a coffee machine, comfy couch and a few up to date womans magazines would mean I could spend a lot more time and money in the store. that bit is up to you.

the problem is that accountants run modern companies. max profit, buy in cheap junk, and sell at maximum the market will take, poorly paid staff. Who wants repeat customers, they have your money go away

Couldn't agree more.
It is a big frustration around here that Mega Mitre 10 is right next door to Bunnings and all they are there for, is outdo eachother with the cheapest crap they can find.Quality counts for nothing as the major 'names' we grew up with have abandoned locally produced items, made of top quality materials that will last a lifetime, for cheap throwaway items "because that is what the public wants".
There was a time not so long ago when you bought a top quality Rodd & Gunn clothing item, because not only was it made of top quality materials, manufactured locally to exceptionally high quality standards (1 customer return per $100,000 worth of sales.), but you also knew it was going to last - and it kept Kiwis employed, paying taxes into the system rather than sucking them out of it.

Ditto Bendon and a few other clothing icons. Far easier to fax an order to China than run a factory.

Just put a notice at the gate "Titterware Party down here" and put an arrow into your shed. You could have a ball and your wife would be inside waiting for them all night.

pup2, Feb 16, 2:07pm
Got a place like that down south Jazz. Gas & Tool in gore and E Hayes & Sons in Invercargill. Rows and rows of man tools. O Yea

tonyrockyhorror, Feb 16, 2:40pm
Yeah, the names are still there but they're mostly merely a front for peddling junk. Stanley, Sidchrome, Fuller just to name a few.I wouldn't buy any of those 'brands' now.

richardmayes, Feb 16, 3:00pm
My lady understands what a Powerbuilt 9/16" ratchet spanner is, so I've got her to go into the Tool Shed for me the last couple of times I've needed new spanners or the like.

We almost always get pretty good discounts that way, as long as she remembers to loosen the straps of her overalls a bit to show some "personality" for the guy on the till.

morrisman1, Feb 16, 3:10pm
Agreed, you have to look at more than just the name these days. I have seen more sidchrome sockets returned than anything else. Never seen a fuller one back, or a powerbuilt and only a handful of kokens, but remember koken and similar brands are used by people who are more likely to put great strain on their tools.

bubbles244, Feb 16, 4:35pm
do here. central auto parts

bill-robinson, Feb 16, 5:15pm
Mind you, I have been known to buy a sander from a well known store, use for fibreglass until it siezed, took it back and replaced under warranty as it was only home use.

xs1100, Feb 16, 7:06pm
get the wurth brakecleaner one (better seals in it)

rob_man, Feb 16, 7:11pm
Already ordered one from Otburys today.
