Nah, its in the close company of Mazda, Suzuki, Kia. Given every VW of that age is vastly more sophisticated than the Suzuki and a bit more sophisticated than the Mazda product I think thats fine.
Jaguar is the surprise for me.
Where is this from though exactly. often the U.S studies are not actually very accurate because they don't keep it scientific and take in to account customer perception and sometimes the dealer network.
That's where the reliabilityindex is good, its pretty much just raw data. Thats what you want.
I am also pretty suspicious that Audi has done so much better than VW, when they are the same cars with a different body shell. It may be because of sales proportion of different models but I am a bit doubtfull on that. more likely hokum survey technique.

Go the ford. Damn you chrysler! haha

And I don't undertand the scale as it reads that most vehicles have problems (eg average of 132 problems per 100 vehicles!)
But useful as a comparison between brands, using real figures rather than what people 'think' to be the case.
oh, and pic came out a bit small but bottom blurb says Land Rover and Saab had too small a sample size to include

Thats O.K, you just watch Chrysler fly up the ranks now Fiat are sorting them out.

Go on Jazz ,try and distort the facts to suit yourself

Not really true in the States - most VWs are Golfs/Jettas with the old five cylinder with conventional auto.
Suzuki is also much different in the states - IIRC their volume seller is a rebadged full sized Nissan pickup truck and the Swift isn't available

Not true of the 2009 models as per this survey though. Those are DSG with the up to date engines. I know this because I order VW parts from the states regularly.

Ahhh should have known. They are hokum in my opinion, I have seen their results be grossly at odds with other surveys over the years.
vtecintegra,

The GTI/GLI is up to date, the normal Golf/Jetta is not
They even bought back that whezy old 8v 2l for the base model Jetta
thejazzpianoma,

I take it back, you are quite right, I looked up FCP Groton and they are listed there for the model age of the survey too. I just didn't notice as I had filtered the car to what I was looking for. Point to you sir!

Porsche is at number 2.
Could that be because most of them are much lower K's than the average family sedan, that is used 7 days a week and holiday trips etc!
thejazzpianoma,
Feb 15, 7:12pm
I wonder whether the Americans just struggle too much with the concept of 1.2 and 1.4 litre engines being so powerful!
thejazzpianoma,
Feb 15, 7:13pm
No, its JD powers hokum methods.Porsche are second to worst in the reliabilityindex survey.

Even the concept of a manufacturer rating is pointless, what actually matters is the individual model and year. Anything else is only suitable for purposes of amusement really.

Jazz, just admit that your VW's are not as perfect as you make out. JD Power use industry standards to do their surveys. They are an independent company and have no affiliation with any car company.

yes, what exactly are these 'hokum methods'.
I just see them taking data and presenting it.!
trdbzr,

Yeah a large firm that has been around for decades, and owned by a very large multinational corporation is going to release flawed data, but the one eyed hick from Tauranga can see through their lies and their global conspiracy to bring down VW.

No.
Its because they are the single best motorcar on the planet overall. A 911 makes a fine daily driver, covering economy, reliability, image and grin factor.
Anyone who disagrees is an idiot btw
pauldw,

Approx half US sales are SX4 models followed by Kizashi, Grand Vitara, & then Equator. AFAIK the recent SX4 with Nissan CVT have had more problems than previous auto.

Bugger. you are so correct. I will forward my apologies. And all you muppets out there, stop buying anything other than a VW.ok.
