What ya recommend. We painting garage and also windows on house. What hand held one do you recommend. Anyone used one they would recommend !

usdefault, Feb 15, 11:42pm
Unless you really know what you are doing don't paint windows with them.

Wagners are usually the go for walls, ceilings etc.

thejazzpianoma, Feb 15, 11:43pm
They are Poo in my experience. If you have access to a compressor I would recommend a pressure pot and gun instead. These are much the same price and do a much nicer job in my opinion.
Available for about $200 from Bunnings, Supercheap etc

jason18, Feb 15, 11:48pm
Oh really. I have used a air sprayer to paint and it used so much paint! Do those pots use less paint. I have a compressor in the garage 15cfm

jason18, Feb 15, 11:49pm
Whats the deal with windows. Will be planning to mask

attitudedesignz, Feb 15, 11:50pm
I HATE airless sprayers (don't ask why suffice to say my old boss had a thing for painting truck sides with the g*dforsaken things)

Jason, have you used one before! If not, be prepared to sh1t yaself when the paint starts coming out and you have no control over the amount lol.

attitudedesignz, Feb 15, 11:51pm
The 10lt pressure pot jazz linked would be my choice.

whqqsh, Feb 15, 11:51pm
Ive bought one but I havent used it yet, the young guy at work borrowed it end of last summer & reckons it goes great. Ours is an ASM (apparently made by Graco so I got lucky there). Painter mate reckoned avoid Wagner unless you only want to use it occasionally around the house as theyre ok domestic but not really heavy duty at all

jason18, Feb 15, 11:52pm
haha na havent used it. Only use gravity feed on car and on my boys cot.

jason18, Feb 15, 11:52pm
true so no wagner. mmm

whqqsh, Feb 15, 11:54pm
oh & problem with using compressed air to pain a house overspray. & lots of it.
& whoever said about not being able to control flow amount obviously didnt read the instructions & find the control knob or correct nozzle

trogedon, Feb 15, 11:59pm
My vote goes to Pressure Pot too. I did most of a very big house (2 + storys) with one and very fast and efficient. I had a couple of guys go before me to mask and I also held large sheets of carboard as masking as well. I used a pressure pot sprayer with a job I had (part of my job managing a blind company) spraying rattan blinds. Again it did excellent work.

jason18, Feb 16, 12:00am
yeah I was also worried about overspray as I dont want to cover house in it.

jason18, Feb 16, 12:01am
Ok true so no overspray. I was looking at those cheap airless sprayers so those seem to be out of the question (handheld wagners) Maybe I try a pressure pot.

nathanmac, Feb 16, 1:01am
We used a Wagner for about 4 years with no problem at all until we were talked into getting it serviced - after that it leaked like a sieve. But that was a workmanship thing and it was a great unit otherwise.Edit to say it was an industrial unit not a POS thingee.

Like anything it comes down to experience with using it - get overspray on everyone's car 3 blocks downwind and you'll learn the value of picking the right day.

So how is it that no professional painters use pressure pots when painting houses!

Is it because they don't want to be carrying 10 kilos at the wrist whilst 20 foot up the side of a two storey house!

Don't ask for DIY advice in the motoring forum, or they'll have you two packing, cut n polishing and adding a bonnet scoop to your garage.

nathanmac, Feb 16, 1:08am
Lol have you ever tried asking DIY advice in the DIY section! At least there are a few painters in here. not just home makeover viewers.

usdefault, Feb 16, 1:10am
I am a painter. Painters do not use presuure pots ever.

purple666, Feb 16, 1:11am
Have you ever seen a pressure pot setup!
Mate of mine is a pro house painter and he uses one at times and from memory it will hold 20lt but don't quote me on that

nathanmac, Feb 16, 1:13am
I know - I saw one once when I was doing my trade. It was collecting dust in the corner of the spray booth.

usdefault, Feb 16, 1:19am
Myself and everyone I know use either Greyco or Wagner airless sprayers. Pressure pots are an asshole to clean, especially for the novice.

jason18, Feb 16, 1:21am
Oh k so I will go with airless. Yes tried asking in DIY and thats why I came to motoring haha. Wagner one i guess are those expensive ones pro painters use. What about the hand held ones with a small tank

usdefault, Feb 16, 1:22am
Small handheld ones are rubbish.

Either hire one or borrow a mates.

nathanmac, Feb 16, 1:25am
Like anything, you get what you pay for basically.

Didn't realise Wqqsh had linked to my auction up above, but the reason I went for the one I'm selling is it is a relatively tough unit that takes Graco parts. If you are ever looking at a second hand one of those ASM's apparently the gun is the weak link and will eventually wear out.A replacement Graco gun will set you back a few 24 packs.

If you aren't going to be doing much spraying, consider hiring one - it's not that expensive and you'll know you've got a good unit that you haven't had to fork out thousands for.

jason18, Feb 16, 1:26am
Ok cheers guys, Thanks for the info
