wrong coloured seatbelts on a red car. Really!

johnf_456, Feb 17, 4:31pm
Perhaps you need blue ones

danni_2254, Feb 17, 4:32pm
Faded

3962, Feb 17, 4:38pm
So WOF fail can be for faded seatbelts! When I read the WOF sheet I was wondering "should I paint them blue!". Just never come across that before.

thunderbolt, Feb 17, 4:44pm
Fade is sun damage which weakens the belt.

mm12345, Feb 17, 4:52pm
Fade is the dye fading, which doesn't prove that the belt is weakened.

tclarkenz, Feb 17, 4:56pm
i failed in December for underinflated tyres and one of my headlights had dipped. At least the dude was thorough though right!

mugenb20b, Feb 17, 4:59pm
Faded seat belts are OK! Seat belts that have gone hard are OK! BUT, they can't be both.

3962, Feb 17, 5:13pm
The seatbelts aren't hard, just faded. And they retract fine. I just thought it strange but he said it's a new law in!

danni_2254, Feb 17, 5:14pm
Can't replace them with 2nd hand ones now that its been picked up. You need to go get brand new ones.

mugenb20b, Feb 17, 5:17pm
You can fit second hand ones if you go to a different garage for another wof check.

mugenb20b, Feb 17, 5:18pm
I'll check tomorrow morning and let you know. I haven't failed cars for seat belts lately.

danni_2254, Feb 17, 5:19pm
If the original wof was offline, if its in the computer then they will know.

mugenb20b, Feb 17, 5:19pm
Careful John! You are in danger of developing a sense of humour.

mugenb20b, Feb 17, 5:21pm
No they bloody won't. They'll see the words "seatbelts", they won't know the core of the problem, so you could just say, it failed on a loose buckle, a loose bolt or whatever.

danni_2254, Feb 17, 5:22pm
Woah settle down lad.

mugenb20b, Feb 17, 5:23pm
OK, I'll try!

mugenb20b, Feb 17, 5:23pm
Just kidding.

dave653, Feb 17, 5:29pm
My fronts failed for fading about 12 years ago, bought new, put the old in the back. still gets a wof to this day (well, last week). Anyone seen cars being towed with old belts! I have. strong as buggery!

3962, Feb 17, 5:38pm
Thanks for that. Be interesting to see what is said in regards of "wrong coloured seatbelts". I 'll look back tomorrow. Good discussion all.

outbidyou2, Feb 17, 6:41pm
and DON'T call me John, ahahahaha

kazbanz, Feb 17, 7:01pm
PLEASE before stating something IS factcheck the laws concerned.
I replace around 3 belts a month and NEVER have I been forced to fit brand new belts

gadgit3, Feb 18, 8:25am
False info there.
You can fit any belt you want as long as it complys. And a good condiction second hand belt from the same model car dose comply.

gadgit3, Feb 18, 8:32am
The wording in the VIRM is:
reason for rejection
The seat belt webbing has fading so that most of the colour has been bleached AND shows signs of chalking and/or has become stiff.

If your car came from factory with blue belts and you now have black ones fitted (wrong colour as you have failed on) then this is not a fail.

kazbanz, Feb 18, 9:58am
3962are you taking the mickey here or does it actually say"wrong colored seatbelts" . Thats utterly bizzarre.
If its faded belts and you feel they are structurally sound I'd be thinking the easy solution would be to recolor them
