AA and VTNZ pre-purchase checks.

As the thread contributors say, they are somewhat flawed but still offer helpful info for the novice.
What else can a road side check really offer than the service they provide!
Lets face it, they have never seen the car or the owner before and can only do so much for a small fee.
Not ideal, but still better than nothing, surely!

I feel that having dealt with a range of AA inspectors and inspectionsthat there is big variation in what they report and how they report it.
I feel that comes down to where in the mechanicing world they have come from.
The local west auckland guy is an ex spanner man of 30 years experience. He knows the difference between a surface scratch and a poo'd up repair. he can tell when an engine is naff and when its just got dirty oil. so Yea I still feel getting your mechanic to do an inspection is better than the AA but that the aa is a lot better than no inspection at all

Suck it up Jazz, New daddy is right, not my first pick but not worth ignoring all together, you know, like VAG products.

my mate got one from vtnz a few years back pointed out stuff like small scratches etc and that the back of the front seats had movement they never picked up the welded seat rails or cracked welds in the seams of the engine bay
