Have just receivedletter from the above stating a vehicle i ownhas recently been sold or disposed of and removed from my name, I haven't done this and still have the vehicle here. Having checked carjam it still says car is mine, has anyone experienced this before!Letter is only5 days old so I'm hoping they've just made a cockup, this current system is just crazy!

Some one has done a change of ownership on a car with a very similar plate to yours and put in your plates instead of theirs by mistake. Funnily enough it is the person whose name you car is now in that has all the risk, not you. You still legaly own the car, but if you speed past a speed camera in it or get a parking fine it will be the person whose name is on the papers who will be sent the ticket.

Ok Sheepyheresthe two most likely senarios. A) a testing station/post shop etc has accidently keyed in your rego number when doing a change of ownership. They might have meant to key AAB123 and did AAB132. Hopefully the new owner of the actual car realised and its been reversed. But in between the letter has been computer generated. b) Less likely but possible is some scum got the details off of your car and did c of o into their name. They did it in order to provide security on a loan.
MOST LIKELY its a simple keying errorBUTDon't take any chances. Zip into your local AA/VTNZ etc testing station with that letter and 2 forms of ID. Given that you are indeed you then the exact question to ask them is ."Is MY car currently registered in my name!" Show them the letter and your ID -they wont be able to say who its registered to if its not you but if it is you have some peace of mind. If it ISN'T in your name I'd pay the $9.40 and get it back into your name.

WE had a car for a while that was apparently a mack truck and mack truck that was apparently a mitzy, took ages for VTNZ to sort out there stuff up, so for about 8 months we could pretend we were driving a beast.

Hi, they are limited to what they can do now due to he new privacy law that came in recently.Quite a lot changed, things like you can no longer go there and pay a small fee to find out who the owner of a vehicle is.I have emailedNZTAwhich seems to be all i can do at moment.I doubt any dishonest person would change it into their name and pinch it, it's not worth much and doing so would make them easy to trace.

I'd leave it and park wherever I wanted, drive down bus lanes and do fly-bys past speed cameras.
