strut braces tend to run over the top of the motor from one shock tower to the other or others may go from shock tower to firewall.

Usually nowhere, unless one has been added to the vehicle.

Ford's had strut braces from the 50's into 70's. Always ran from shock towers to the bulkhead at about a 45 degree angle. The early model Mustang's have an after-marked variant called an Export Brace. These are a one piece unit joined in a V shape at the bulkhead for improved rigidity, instead of 2 single braces.
Modern versions are cross mounted after-market extras that bolt to the existing shock mounts.
Standard versions were 2 single braces - not joined

Isn't a strut brace something that older ladies wear!
