I agree !

v8_mopar, Feb 19, 11:35am
The horses had the roads first! maybe the cars should be kicked off the roads.

There must be a treaty out there somewhere . Time for a uprising and lots of claims against the car owners

carmedic, Feb 19, 11:38am
That actually isn??

taipan4, Feb 19, 11:43am
what's the difference between a hedgehog & a BMW/.Merc/Porsche

Ans:on these cars the pricks are on the inside

dunfold, Feb 19, 11:51am
apparently, according to NZ law, horses ARE vehicles.

mickeyd, Feb 19, 12:10pm
If the guy was going so fast how was he able to
1. hear you shouting explentives
2 stop so quickly
and why when he did stop did you not
1.move your horse away so he could not grab the reins
2. get the license plate.!

something about this whole story does not add up but if it is as you say before you start mouthing off again at a motorist just remember you aregiving others an impression of what the rest of us horse riders are like. Frankly don't appreciate being lumped in with someone who can't control their language and then due to resentment have that driver later take it out on me who is innocently riding along minding my own business.
Furthermore if your horse does get spooky when cars speed past either don't take her out until she is more trained or keep to quiet off-roads where cars don't speed. As I horse rider if I had a horse with "issues" for my and my horse's safety as well as others we would stick to bridle trails,forest/beach rides or stay at home.

With the many ocurrences of "road rage " these days before you start mouthing off at anyone in any driving situation might be prudent to keep quiet and take license plate numbers /photos instead because you might one day find yourself in a worse altercation.

Oh for crying out LOAD . NAIL the ignorant twit

Inconsiderate driving
Dangerous Littering
Road rage + verbal assault

Ppl have been killed in the past from a bottle thrown out of a car window

mrfxit, Feb 19, 12:35pm
Mmm food for thought
Agree . proviso's
Tricky without knowing the horse & rider concerned & more so. this incident

ajcameron, Feb 19, 12:41pm
The passenger leaning out the window who had just thrown a bottle at me must have told the driver i was yelling something. i dont know. nor am i lumping you (mickeyd) in with other horse riders. Personally i dont see how swearing at someone when id just had a glass bottle thrown at my horse/me who is not spooky unless cars fly past at excessive speeds or gets things thrown at her! how is this a bad thing! I was doing everything by the road code, on the left, high vis clothing. also on a road where there are aprox 150 horses grazing in a semi rural area as i live in auckland and pay to have my horses grazed at a property with no facilities, where 500m down the road is an arena for hire (which i was riding to) sorry i didnt have time to write the whole story of things that happened, just the facts that mattered most. :)

ajcameron, Feb 19, 12:45pm
Thankyou! Ive filed a report to the police who were very helpful and said although i only saw an A and a 9 on the number plate they would keep a look out alos descibed the guy to held onto my horses reins. The council has agreed to put more signs up to make drivers aware that ALOT of people ride along this stretch of road.

richard198, Feb 19, 12:48pm
I always slow down for horses as every else should. Horse riders have just as much right to be on the road as other users.
(It's a shame your horse didn't kick the guy in the nuts!)

ajcameron, Feb 19, 12:57pm
Its great to know that most motorists do follow the road rules! thankyou for being so considerate! everyone with a lisence in this country knows the road rules and I understand that some ( not all ) riders can be disrespectful. I cant understand though how some drivers can be so inconsiderate and against horses! Arent engines meaured in horse power :P!

kazbanz, Feb 19, 1:06pm
AJ---I'm sorry but you have it all wrong. MOST car drivers couldn't care less for horses or riders. They would and do worry more about a splinter in their little finger than they do about you and your horse.
So Unfortunately YOU need to ride in a manner that takes this into account.
Treddlies and motorcyclists deal with this every day

ajcameron, Feb 19, 1:11pm
Kazbanz, Im just saying the majority of drivers who seem me riding do slow down and give us space, esspecially when im on my big horse.

kazbanz, Feb 19, 1:25pm
AJ--and I'm just saying that youneed to ride like the lowest common denominator IS the norm. I'm sorry if this seems harsh.
When I'm teaching a new rider I tell them about little Johnny
Little Johhny was riding his bike. Little Johhny had right of way. Little Johhny is the rightest guy I know in waikamete cematry.

ajcameron, Feb 19, 1:30pm
That ok, it doesnt seem harsh at all

mrfxit, Feb 19, 1:55pm
Sad but true

mrfxit, Feb 19, 1:59pm
Well it's like this .>>
You know how BIG/ fast AND heavy trains are .& the fact that they are the ONLY transport that has legally got a "100% right of way" written into govt transport law >>>>>> > >>> ppl STILL choose to argue with them

bashfulbro, Feb 19, 2:06pm
Yes, you are quite right,i always slow down, sometimes there can be smaller kids on horses, quite within their rights to be on the road.
I once sacked a truck driver, for deliberately, swerving close to a horse & rider, and using Jake brake. There were witnesses, and he admitted it, so was shown the door.

incar., Feb 19, 4:48pm
so i wonder what the drivers story is in regards to your riding! you must of been a idiot riding in the middle of the road (as he said)

gunhand, Feb 19, 5:04pm
Hope you gave him 12 verbals, 8 written's comprahensive counciling, more driving tuition, paid time off work to reflect his wrongs and a payout as he left.

Or you just give him DCM which is the way it should be. Was this a current event or back when aholes were aholed for being aholes.

tonyrockyhorror, Feb 19, 5:08pm
Keep your donkey off the road.

That is all.

ajcameron, Feb 19, 5:13pm
As i clearly stated I was riding as far left on the side of the road i could ride in that wasnt in the drain.

ajcameron, Feb 19, 5:13pm
As i clearly stated I was riding as far left on the side of the road i could ride in that wasnt in the drain. I would not ever ride in the middle of a road unless it was completely unavoidable.
