exhaust is bigger than standard, with high flow mufflers
AFAIK, there are some model/year specific issues, depending on how much extra power you want to make. There's differences between early "silver-top" engine and later black-top (rocker cover) with pistons, rods, oil-squirters etc.For a "mild" turbo, it might not matter much. For serious power gains, silver-tops are apparently preferred, or mods to black-top can be done (for $$$). There are also different pump setups, some even having inline pumps. But probably if you want even a mild turbo mod (to get similar to OEM turbo) to be effective, then work's going to be needed on the pump and injectors, so cost will add up.That's one reason why OEM turbo safaris command a big price premium over n/a.

Not sure if there is any difference, the most important thing is to have a pyro/ egt gauge installed and not go anywhere 550degrees if it is installed in the exhaust or 700degrees if its in the manifold for long periods of time, lots of different kits around depends on your budget $2000-$7000, It is better to have an intercooler, as long as you don't go over the above temps you will have no reliability issues, I think it is the best mod I did on my Safari

How much power do you want and whats the budget. back in late 90's I fittes a aussie Safari turbo kit and intercooler kit and full 3 inch mandrel bent exhaust to my old 90 Patrol, They claimed a increase in power and torque of 60 %, 430nm of torque and 140kw. Makes an unbelievable difference to them. From a standing start to 160kms it would out accelerate a 4.5 litre 80 series petrol landcruiser putting out 158kw,
