did you check out parts pricing 4 that renault ! dealer price is crazy
i quite fancy those later model volvos. if i found a goodie with a dud eng @ the right price, i'd think about plonking a falcon / GM v6in it

Hi Rob, no I haven't actually. Renaults scare me a bit, lots of them seem to have transmission problems, although, I quite like the Megane Scenic.if they only had one more seat.

Yeah, Volvos are nice cars, and I'm slowly looking at V70 S/W 7 seaters, and Peugeot 307, just need to sell my ute first. And hopefully, they are easy enough for my wife to get in and out of.

A north-south engine in a modern Volvo! Not sure if that's possible, unless you get an old RWD model. Otherwise, yes, a GM or a Ford will be a far better and simpler power plant.

yeah your dead right about those tranys in a lot of those euro vehicles.
ive had this idea in my nut that there aren't many repair shops for trany repair, it seems like its a bit of a black art !
the first thing you need is spare parts, none off the auto parts suppliers had a clue. it took a while but found two in auckland.
i had a yak to one fella and basically these newer tranys are mechanically similar to the older stuff but the ecu has control over the
pressure valves, vavle body etc. usually a couple of speed sensors & shit like that.
ive been on these web sites that discuss eng/tran faults of a particular
vehicle, and you soon find out about a problem that turns out to be v common and there fix.
what about toyota ipsum7 seat and bloody reliable !

Yes, I'm looking at them as well, the 2.4 litre models, very nice cars actually. And I'm also looking at V6 Estimas, but I'm kind of hoping to get something that's more interesting to drive than a type writer. The ute's still for sale, so I can't proceed to physically have a look at any vehicles I'm interested in.

Having a transmission shop with all the manuals, spare parts back up and knowing all the ins and outs would be an ideal business. I would love that.

There is a guy in Wanganui (forgot the name.as I never needed A/T repairs) who charges SFA compared to other shops, and he's making a good living by the sounds of it. He does a lot of Mercedes stuff I'm told.

Another option could be to buy an A/T flushing machine, and specialize in transmission and power steering servicing maybe! As long as you have a clean tidy shop and you look professional, not charge the earth, it might be worthwhile. However, a lot of work needs to be generated just to pay off the machine. I know a machine is not required, but one might look like a jungle monkey trying to flush the A/T the "hard" way. Anyway, just a thought.

Hey mugenb20b, are you from upper hutt!Would you be interested in a mechanics job back in upper hutt!

mugenb20b, Feb 28, 7:28pm
I was in Upper Hutt. Are you a garage owner!

mugenb20b, Feb 28, 7:33pm
Oh, hi. Is it Shayna I'm speaking to!

shay6, Feb 28, 7:34pm
Yes :) where did you use to work! I trying to put a face to your name

mugenb20b, Feb 28, 7:42pm
I'm surpised you managed to find me in here. I gasbag a lot.

I used to work at Fairfield Auto Centre, both full time and part time. I started working for them part time when I was running my own refrigeration business. I have closed my company back in 2010. I have used your services before, when I had my 4WDs and needed exhaust repairs. I even bought a couple of towbars too.

I'll tell you what, can I give you a call tomorrow after 5pm, if that's OK!

skin1235, Feb 28, 7:47pm
Cameron Head!, damn good guy and yep his prices are as good as he is

shay6, Feb 28, 7:47pm
Yeah.I will put my cell in my profile, give me a call.I lurk sometimes in here and have noticed you made some positive comments about our business a while ago so I always had your name in my head.Thought it was worth a go to see if you are looking for a job or know of anyone else that might be.We can't poach a mechanic locally, as Upper Hutt is too small! But I am just quietly looking around.

mugenb20b, Feb 28, 7:52pm
I just found you on Facebook, and sent you a message. I'll keep in touch, but I am now being told by the one who must be obeyed to go to bed. Good night.

mugenb20b, Feb 28, 7:53pm
I think so, the name sounds familiar.

mugenb20b, Feb 28, 7:54pm
Will do, thanks.
