I went to the supermarket, and saw a car that had a blown brake light bulb. I went & told the lady that was in the drivers seat. She was like "oh well, nevermind, will get fixed at next WOF"
It really make me sick, that people think they don't have to keep the car upto & at the WOF state at all times. My understanding is that IF you don't fix the car & it drops under the WOF limit you can VOID your insureance (sp).
Is what I think true of not!
Whats your thoughts!

I think your taking her response a little to personally

It's not the 1st time that has happened.
It bugs me.

i think you are right, and she may have thought about it later and decided to fix the light soon.

depends, if no brake lights weren't working then i would be angry, but if one was blown then it wouldn't bother me

Its her business at the end of the day

Insurance "could" decide not to pay out but only if her accident was caused by the lack of a brake light. ie, she got rear-ended

Absolutely - if whatever it was contributed to the claim.
So, if somebody ran into the back of her there would be an argument to be made from the insurers that she contributed to the claim by having non working brake lights.
If she ran into somebody though, it wouldn't make a difference (assuming the brakes actually work at all) because having brake lights or not on your own car, doesn't stop you running into somebody.

Also of course a five-oh could give her a ticket for not being up to warrant standard.

did she have it booked in for a wof check tomorrow morning, or was it not due for 5 months!

Assuming the insurance company found out about it.Once the back end is cavedin, unless there was a fatality and the forensic team came along, who would know! The onus is still on the driver behind to stop in time, regardless of brake lights, working or otherwise. It is what advanced driving is all about and why we leave a sensible gap between ourselves and the vehicle in front.
Double the distance if the dork behind you is tailgating, which I have to say doesn't seem to happen to me too often - other than young females who have the cell phone in their lap and spend more time looking down than ahead.
I always appreciate being told if a light is out, though they do get checked regularly.

Thats a pretty strange attitude after reading other posts you have made Re; Cyclists. I guess what I'm saying is , it seems OK for someone to ignore a red light (brake light) on their car which could well cause an accident, resulting in injury. But its not OK for some road users to ignore other red lights injury tono-one but them-self if it all goes pear shaped.

Cars with no tail lights at night make me chuckle. Pretty obvious they dont check anything on their car and rely on the WOF people to sort it for them.or the police lol.

As much as I would appreciate anyone telling me of a defect on my car in this day and age approaching anyone for any reason could well result in a knife in the ribs. There are some very odd people out there these days who dont except your actually trying to help them.

Two old sayings come to mind ol son. 1) Its not what you say its how you say it. and 2) you can lead a horse to water but ya can't make it drink. maybee your delivery wasn't very diplomatic if this is the common response. Just a thought

did you make an arrest!

Some folk don't like to be told they have an issue or problem but later on they'd probably think about it for a while and have the situation sorted.maybe.

There is a difference between actions on the road and defects physically, perhaps her husband looks after the car! She probably had no clue and was probably suprised someone confront her about it, but once shes thought about it shes probably told the hubby or got it fixed hopefully.I'm not saying don't fix it but at the end of the day its none your of business what she does to the car.
I honestly would not get upset about it, there is far much worse to worry about. Cycling also has nothing to do with this thread either.
Also for curiosity, how did you say it! That could change things like kazbanz mentioned, but dude watch it. There is a lot of crazies about and you may just strike the wrong one who would knock your lights out or stab you for telling them. Ask any paramedic they would probably know, just something to keep in mind.

They are just as bad, cant begin to count the amount of cop commies with one tail light. Is it a design flaw!

Pure speculation. Nothing wrong with that I suppose, apart from who does it I guess.

I know how you feel OP - I came across a big fat chick browsing the biscuit aisle at Pak N Save last week. When I suggested she move on to the fruit and veg section she kicked me in the nads. Some people simply do not appreciate sound advice from complete strangers.

I often let people know when they have light out.
The 2 times that the lady's didn't care was when they was not (wonders how to type this next few words)white/english speaking!
Not trying to be raciest (just stating a fact).
