Hmmm ok. there are products that you can add to paints to stipple them or products you spray on first to stipple the item then spray over it. Ive had limited experience with themtho. When i have used it wasnt to impressed but practice makes perfect. The one you spray on first cam in a spray can.
As for the matt finish well that easy as. You can use flattened solid 2Ks or basecoat with flattened clear coat.Matted clears work but find them easy to mark and you cant polish them at all, unless you polish the rest to the same gloss. Matted 2K works well. Seems the matter you go the harder it is to maintain. Im going to ask why you want a gritty feel!
Thats my view on it but others may have other ideas as well.

Oh, yea seen that. That is an extreme gritty finish yes.
How that is done i dont know. However a good auto paint shop should know.
Again others mite.
And the textured finishes ive used are not that gritty.
Only thing I could suggest is paint it and throw a gritty substance evenly over it while wet and paint again. I kid you not.

I wonder if that is the same as deck tread as is used on boats.
Plenty of less coarse textures available, but don't come across many as gritty as OP suggests.

im not a painter myself but just backing myself up with your help b4 i talk to the local painters

gunhand, Feb 29, 5:52pm
You can flatten any colour.

gammelvind, Feb 29, 5:54pm
Marine deck tread is paintable, so it shouldn't mark. Some even sprinkle glass beads on the wet paint to give a strong, wipable non skid surface.

jono450, Feb 29, 5:55pm
they dont do this engine paint in any colour from what i cant find

grangies, Feb 29, 5:55pm
This stuff here is excellent and can be added to virtually all paints.

The grits are plastic.

thanks for your help i will head back out the the cave and steer and rub my headabit more wile drinking more beer and decide another plan

I wasnt kidding what I sugessted about throwing grit at it. Sand that gets in wet paint and painted over dosnt go away. Ive had sand blasting sand come out of holes when painting. It makes an awsome gritty finish. And is bloody hard to remove when dry unless you attack it harshly.

Or get it in your knickers
