What to do.

moosie_21, Feb 29, 6:08pm
Right, well I finally have plenty of money to do what i want with my car. Problem is, I'm having 2nd thoughts! I would like to get everyones opinion on these options:

1) Take my current 3sfe '93 ST182 Celica and transplant a 3sge BEAMS engine from a ST203 into it with manual gearbox. Also, get a repaint of the back half of the car, and complete overhaul of the suspension and braking systems.
2) Buy a ST203 3sge BEAMS Celica or 1999+ VVTL-i Celica. Don't really like the bug eye version though, and the VVTL-i is 20hp down on the BEAMS.
3) Save up a bit more and buy a Type-R Integra, 2000+ later model. Love the look, has more power and better susp, braking etc, so everything done already.
4) Any options from you guys on N/A (no turbos) 2 or 4 door sports cars!

TIA

Save the money and put it towards a house if you have not already done so.

World is due to end Dec 21, so get the one that spins ya wheels.

Even if the rock keeps spinning into the new year, you are a bloody long time dead so enjoy it while you are here.

I very much doubt this Dec 21 "theory", at the end of the day cars are depreciating assets.

It's a waste IMO to mess with this model unless turbo, just so heavy. Mine is turbo, boost controller + downpipe we will call it 200 at the wheels just for a number. Feels slow and it makes more torque with a nicer power spread than a beams, granted the 4wd makes it heavy the 3sge one I used to have was pretty lame as well.

I've also never liked the beams, it still only makes 150ft/lb or so and it shows. Drop a 1mz V6 in it if anything, alloy, light so doesn't make it even more nose heavy, torque, awesome noise. However lots of work. Integra is poo to, preludes ride much nicer as a road car imo

Hmmm ok, thanks for the advice everyone. I want a nice car before I start buying a house and am locked into a 20 year mortgage thanks! I'm not worried about investment anyways, stocks are my kind of thing. Cheers.

buy a decent model to start with rather than spend umpteen bucks polishing a turd.

Well you can't drive a house but a car also gives you a roof over your head !

socram, Mar 1, 6:50am
House first.Pay off more than the minimum monthly capital (right from day 1) and as the interest drops, keep increasing the capital payments.Should then be able to pay it off in 7 or 8 years, then you'll feel so wealthy, you'll be able to buy almost whatever you want!

Why pay (increasing) rent to put the cash into someone else's pocket!

Rent outa couple of rooms and you'll be mortgage free in about 3 or 4 years.

Good advice

When I was a teen (long ago) I arrived home from a car dealer with a MG TF1500 to find dad in the driveway, hands on hips with a look that would kill. "You can take that back to where you got it" ,he say's "and buy yourself a section" Now I am old, still have the section, but wish I had the MG as well. Aw well, guess I'll just settle with my Mk 2 Jag

the idea is get a nice car, get married then get the house when the missus gets a full time job and we can settle down in a city. So timeline is car (4-6 months), married (1-2 years), house (2-3 years).

Ditch the "get a 'nice' car" and "get married" ideas and just buy a house.

Best thing I ever did, ditched the cars while young and brought a house. Walked, bused, biked everywhere fow two years but it was very worth it. Now I can afford both the flash house and the flash toys due to a few short years of not having anything

Ditch the 'get married' idea and have an AWESOME house (ie massive garage, engines in the lounge etc) have all the toys you want, and keep shagging slim 20 yr olds for ever.

sorted.

lol, it is much easier for me to pull in this country, so technically I could, but I like to think of myself as a quite mature 25 year old. Besides, the missus would be contributing to paying off the house, and 2 incomes are better than one, no!
