My 2004 Fiat Ducato came with only 1 set of keys. Nearly fell over when the agent quoted $475 for a new key despite the fact that I have all the code information to hand. Any suggestions! thanks Graham

That's not to bad from the dealer, some are a lot more. But I don't see the obsession people seem to have with having more than one key. You only need one to drive the car.

Yes but if you lose the one key then you have zero keys and thus can no longer drive the car.
Losing the only key can make replacement much more difficult/expensive too in some cases.

get 2x standard keys cut and tape the transponder to the steering column. if ya want the keyless remote this will not work. Lets face it who wants to steel a fiat!

do you have the red and the blue key! you need the red one to clone from as far as i know. or get the computer unlocked in the united kingdom.

Have you spoken to Mr Minit! He was heaps cheaper for a Commodore key

Yes, that's what other people thought too when they locked their keys in their near new Jaguars or BMWs that you can't break into because the dead locks are activated.

And if you misplace that key you are in the most deep and expensive and inconvenient doodoo you can imagine. Anyone who puts themselves in that situation and/or agrees to buy and operate a modern vehicle knowing that is a fool.

you can break into these cars just a little trickier than usual.

Take a look on eBay for a key to suit .I did about a year ago for a Toyota and got two of them into the country a week later for about 15% the price of just one from Toyota NZ. Interesting they were identical to the original key that came with the car, just that they were blanks and I had to get a key cutter copy my original key pattern onto them. I did the procedure to liven the keys from the car owner manual instructions and presto I have a couple of spares now that work same as original. It's worth a try definitely.

Just checked eBay and there are heaps of Fiat Ducato keys there, you can get transponder keys for almost any make of vehicle actually .on eBay for a fraction of the price charged by particular car dealerships.

Every car has its little break in tricks, but I only know of few.too many to remember. Some guys can pick locks with a special tool, but that requires patience and skill. I tried it once, I didn't have a shit show. And yet, some were naturals at it.

Thanks to all the replies, even the guy who said "who'd steal a Fiat :) " I don't want to pay off Italy's national debt in one hit so will try mr minit and ebay. Cheers Graham

If you buy from ebay it still needs to be programmed so factor this in to the cost.

I programmed myones I bought via eBay here myself from instructions in the owners manual. No Cost at all, not a biggie , just common sense follow instructions to the letter is all.simple. Good thing too was the delivery time from USA was only a week. And if you have it done my a service place it only takes a few minutes in any case so costisn't much of a factor at all.

I also had the exact same program instructions from a tech I know on here as well. Good thing too was the delivery time from USA was only a week. And if you have it done by a service place it only takes a few minutes in any case so costisn't much of a factor at all. I programmed my 2 new keys in less than 10 minutes.

Why! In almost 20 years and thousands of cars I have never lost a key. And always lock the door with the key and if leaving the keys in the car leave the window down. They are easy habbits to form and that way there is no way to lock the key in the car.

You must be an exception to what could be a high % of the rule "curl" I've lost or more correctly "misplaced" keys many times in more than that time span and there is actually nothing wrong with having a second or indeed a third key, more so for other family members use in my case anyway. Another reason is with transponder keys, you've got a spare if the "battery" in one key conks out you won't be stuck i.e. if you have the spare with you !

Also handy if you somehow do lock keys inside your car, believe me it happens. One good thing with my older Merc the drivers door has to be physically locked from the outside, can't lock it from inside. That's before central locking came into being by the way.

my info for nearly all fiats says diagnostic gear must be used to programme additional keys.

Are you married!Does your wife have her own set of keys! We share the daily driver but I have my bunch of keys and she has hers.I would have thought that was totally normal. Whilst I am carrying a load of shopping, at least she can zap and unlock the car for me, without me putting down the shopping.

Could well be so for Fiats but I did the ones for my Toyota Avalon following the instructions in the cars owner manual for programming extra keys. I guess the Toyota agents may be able to do them with diagnostic gear also.
