Gee $520 a year doesn't buy much in the way of tools.

its more a rental type thing.the firm pays you for the use of your tools.its cheaper than them having to supply a tool set to everyone. i would have about 2-3k worth of tools so $520 a year isnt bad really, but a mechanics tool allowance i suspect would be much more

I just paid $1000 for a 3/8 impact gun & a drill set from Strap On a few weeks ago, the apprentice has been using the hell out of the 3/8 bugger it I miss buying tools / taking them home that night & having a play with them - then taking them to the coal face
Ugh

My 'tool allowance' is included in my per hour rate . which strangely enoughthe same as any other person in my trade

Roughly $18 a fortnight, I think it works to something stupid like 26c an hour.

tool allowance these days is pretty much a "maintenance allowance" as any sort of battery drill will cost $600.00+++++++++++ that's any good

You can put a ring around that.

I've had to give up the tools to run the workshop but I still get $12 per week tool allowance just like all the techs on the floor.

Thats what I pay me engineer. Its more of a top up allowance as most peeps bring their own tools to the job and then replace whats worn or damaged.

$40 per week, and I use it to buy tools.

Used to be tax free as part of the Union Award rate, now we don't have unions worth a damn it's part of your employment contract. In which case if it's written by your employer it's probably been left out.
