Top of the T

goes before me. Yeah not much change here, this is how I've seen it for as long as I can remember. Lets face it, the car at the top of the T is virtually in front of you so you can hardly pull-out .

Only because most people didn't understand the road rules.

The old rule had some merit. You give way to anyone that would nail you in the drivers door.

aragorn2003, Mar 25, 5:20pm
Exactly , the amount of people that I know that have said but this rule isn't a change .obviously our licensing process let this one slip through the cracks

outbidyou2, Mar 25, 5:40pm
yea sure but if the person at the top of the T has 3 cars behind them waiting for oncoming traffic before turning into your road, and you are approaching, then you are hardly going to just drive straight into them as you turn right, no wonder it isnt a change to the way people drive now is it

outbidyou2, Mar 25, 5:45pm
actually this ones been thrashed. I guess if people stayed behind the white give way line at the top of the T then it couldn't happen, they wouldn't be in front of you

Im not saying this rule is bad/wrong its just amazing how many people didn't know the old rule in the 1st place. And for this fact I never used the old rule as it would have caused an accident.

Something I have wondered though is if I was at an ungoverned intersection and used the old rule (when it was still the rule) and it had ended up in an accident , who's fault would it have been!

aragorn2003, Mar 25, 5:49pm
But that's a governed intersection because of the line , isn't it!

magicmat, Mar 25, 5:52pm
I have to admit that I followed this rule just by instinct as now it has become obvious I didnt actually know the old rule regarding this. So in this instance, I can see how this rule makes sense.

outbidyou2, Mar 25, 5:54pm
yeah, if at the top of the T and other car both have give way signs then ungoverned vs governed is a moot point isn't it!

msigg, Mar 25, 5:59pm
No The line(if there is no signage) is put there as a guide as to the best place to see up and down the road. That is all.

manukarose1, Mar 25, 6:48pm
Thats the problem they creep over the line hence making it difficult for others to give way in the past.

Years ago I pulled out in front of a cop at a uncontrolled T (knowing that he had no intention of giving way).He didn't hit me but gave me the "my bad" sign and the "you smart ass" look at the same time, lol

mark.52, Mar 25, 10:59pm
What's the "my bad" sign! And why haven't I seen this before!

barrie2, Mar 26, 6:01am
OK if there is a white line. The suburbs of Rotorua have few white lines but a lot of T 's. One classic T junction failed so many tests as common sense did not matter. Now it is legal the testers may look for another 'trick'.

To be clear : the limit line means nothing.
