No. The consumer gaurantees act is where something goes wrong in the engine and the place you bought it from will fix it. A warranty is when you pay insurance to cover the same thing.

so when they say it cost so much for a 2 year warrenty your basically paying the excess and their insurance will pay for them to fix it! sorry havnt really dealt with this sort of thig before

no not their insurance. A mechanical warranty is bascily insurance against mechanical falure. The consummer gaurenties act covers you for a reasonable length of time based on the age and mileage of the car and price paid, there is no black and white period of time so for example if you paid $3500 for a car and it broke down 2 weeks later you would be covered unless you bought it with a fault made known to you. if however it broke down 18 months later it would be unreasonable to make a claim against the seller and a mechanicl warranty would help. Mechanical warranties can be worth having depending on what type of car you are looking at and how long you intend to keep it for.

There are also some cases in which the consumerguarantees act does not apply.

the car is 8 grand 83 thou km a 2000 i chose a 2 year warrenty.
