Off on tour with my band for a week and in the process of giving the legendary Ducato band van a quick birthday discovered I was getting no pedal and a huge amount of air to the rear brakes. With the obvious diagnosis being master cylinder failure during bleeding I had it rebuilt at a well known (in the trade) Auck brake shop.Just finished a 2 hour fitting and bleeding session with exactly the same symptoms! It??

Why were you bleeding the brakes in the first place!

Probably just periodic maintenance, brake fluid does absorb moisture

Are you trying to bleed them with it jacked up at the back! If so it needs to be on the ground or a four post hoist and level due to the load sensing valve on the back.

Hire a bigger van and sacrifice the dog anyway. LOLI suppose they did drill out the holes in the cylinder! (including the ones to the resevoir) I've had that happen. Tried blowing out the lines with the air! If all else fails PANIC. Bench bleed the cyl! good luck.

Wonder if the slave cylinders are just as old as the old leaking master cylinder! Most cases the master cylinder would have taken time to wear out and by replacing it you increase brake pressure 10fold and pop goes the cylinders. Thats where i would look to first. ''brake slave cylinders'' if that's the problem, do both sides with new shoes and machine the drum and check the shoes seat inside the drum properly before assemble.

You may well be right there Snoops, fixed the problem with a pressure bleeder but I'm still not convinced it was the problem in the first place.

No,, belky,.mate, it wasn't weird. The man was simply pointing out that Johnf was replying ( with an erroneous guess) to a question put to the OP .nothing weird about it, & most reading appear to have got that. (edit:). None of which, of course, helps mr SR2 out.with his brake issue,. excuse the digression :)
