if you owned a car the had a electric bonnet opener and the contacts had gone and the car kept over heating into the red and the mechanic couldnt get the bonnet open,, and the mechanic rung the manufactour (sp) of the car and they said the only way to get the bonnet open was to break the grill to get into it would you let the mechanic break the grill!

yes type of car is quite important. If it's a common model and grilles are in every wreckers for $10 then go for it.

Yip post what make/model/year.

When the mechanic said he rang the manufacturer he probably just means he rang the dealer. Sometimes (and it may depend on who he spoke to at the dealers) the dealers staff are surprisingly incompetent.

Not saying that there definitely will be a way of doing it without breaking the grill but its worth posting the make/model/year and doing some more checking.

its not me thank goodness its a ford mondeo unsure of the year. friend wont let mechanic break the grill and he doesnt have any other way of opening it

Mark one and two were cable operated.
Mark three had a key lock behind the ford badge.
