Help please with the name of a tool

Hi, I need to buy a tool for removing oil filters, it has a strap that tightens around the filter and some metal thingy that keeps it tight and then helps to undo a tight filter. What are these called and where is the best place to buy one. Thanks for your help.

Screwdriver.

It's actually a strap wrench but a screwdriver will do the same job stabbed through the side.

BTW any car oil filter that can't be taken off by hand was put on far too tight.

Ooooo.uuum.I would probably call it a.oil filter remover.thingy.Supercheap, Repco etc.they all talk the same lingo.

Its pretty much as you said, oil filter removal tool.repco or supercheap and prob wharehouse will know what you want. Buy a good one if you can, unless its a one use item. Or you can buy a cup type item that slips onto the grooves of the filter and you ues a ratchet to take it off.

try and loosen it by hand when car is cool you can get a good grip on it,retighten slighly and warm the car before you drain the oil and replace filter.,

Yes stabbing a screwdriver through it does work, untill you have one that dose not come off due to being to tight. Then you end up with a mangled mess that is twice as hard to get off.
And I done a motorcycle one not long ago hand tight plus a turn with strap and it leaked still. Needed two more full turns to make it tight enough. I actually thought id tightened it to much the first time.

Trouble is alot of cars these day you can barely get your hands on it let alone turn it. Im sure the oil filter is the last thing they think of when designing an engine and ease of getting at it. lol. Why cant they be poking out the side like an HQ.

too true, then you get them like the mrs primera with a sheild halfway round as well!

Yes. I do know the name of a tool but I shan't repeat it here. The walls have ears.
