rover v8 alloy block (lightweight ) cheap on gas and can be worked into a monster of a motor,also the toyota v8 arnt to bad now you can get them from importers

Hi Lux and HiAce had that engine in later models with a 5 speed box. Try for a wreck with a 22R engine and use it's driveshaft as well, possibly engine mountings would need revising too which would require a LVV cert, changing the engine and gearbox would require same I'd say! Easiest way would be to replace with another 3Y in good nick, the power difference by the sounds of the condition your 3Y is in would be total.

3.8 Holden V6 and 5 speed. Good easy fitment with plenty of go

My thoughts too if you can score one .as they aren't all that common! Some Toyota Dyna trucks ran the 4Y, but They had a heavier truck gearbox from memory and the flange on the engine probably could be swapped out with that of a 3Y .if it is a detachable type not integral with the crankcase!
