Son is putting a Rover in the demo derby, I think its a P5 mid sixties, 3 litre six cylinder auto and can be any colour you want it to be (o: Problem is fuel leaking badly out the bottom of the big old S U carb, took it apart and I would call it the choke diaphram is split. Anyone know where to get one of these or maybe an old carb lying around!

Thanks for that, will check, but demo next Saturday and looking for a quick fix. Could seal it temporary but can't think of anything that petrol won't eat, in saying that, it only needs to last a little while.

Not sure what part you are referring to!Metal!Rubber! Not really aware of a diaphragm on an SU carb.Post a pic!

The P5 rover was fitted with a SU HD8 carby and on these the the float bowl mounts with its arm fastening directly below, and concentric with, the main jet. The arm has a flange that fastens with 4 screws to the bottom of the carburetor, and sealed with a rubber diaphragm integral with the main jet. I have 2 carbs sitting here but wont supply parts to someone whos going to destroy a semi classic car. Thats what we import jap shit for.

Yes, you have described it exactly, I can appreciated where you are coming from with destroying a semi classic. He did get it from the wreckers and it is in a not to good a shape. With a bit of luck it will destroy a few jappas before it is laid to rest (o: I could seal above the diaphram with some sort of gasket poo, as not going to use choke, but any suggestions as to what to use!

I would use Permatex Fast Drying sealant; it is brown and funky but works well on fuel if you leave it an hour or more to dry. Or if you cant find that, try Hylomar Blue, although petrol proof, it is not suitable for constant immersion in the stuff, but if your only using it for 1 day it should be fine.
