By doing that you are increasing the already high voltage to the spark plug so indicates one of four things, Faulty lead, faulty spark plug, faulty dizzy cap / rotor or lower compression on that cylinder.

ok leads ok spark plug ok. can timming do this

When you take off the lead, that cyl is no longer firing, do comp test and check valves. Where is the popping!

If the timing was out, then it would affect all cylinders.
Assuming the ignition side is OK, I would be looking at mechanical sides of things, like compression check, and see if the lifters aren't stuck.

are you taking the lead right off the plug and away from it!

it sounds like a stuck valve its popping out the back

What tests have you done! , e.g used a multimeter across the leads set to ohms.

burnt valve! just watch if your running with out no 5 lead on you can get a build up of unburnt fuel in your exhaust system (coil maybee)

Sounds like a burnt valve. Do a compression test.

left it over night reset the dizzy an now she all fine. just need to get a tuneup now. i cant do 1 without a timinglight right!

if you know how to use a timing light properly thenyou could ask someone if you could use their one.

I would be looking at the leads, coil, dizzy or ignition module. Prob the later
