What would be a good size compressor for car painting. Cheers

I'm getting by with a single phase 3HP Marquip which has been repowered from the original 2HP and geared up a bit as well. It probably makes a reliable 12 CFM. The 2HP version works OK too but would be right on the lower limit. If you have 3ph power you can use a 5HP forever.

That's the same as mine but mine has had the bigger motor added. I paid $800 for it off TM.

Yes, it sure would. It may be heavy with the cast iron block and cylinders, but with three pots it has no problem keeping up.Not the sort of thing you would want to carry around too much because of the weight, but they do the job without any fuss, and minimum maintenance. Not that expensive either.

And a lot quieter than the el cheapo equivalent.

I already have a cheap supercheap type compressor, but it hasn't got enough grunt or reserve to run a paint gun. Could I just get anouther one and run them together! Seems a cheap way.

No i wouldn't bother with the hassle, they will crap out working that hard. That Hindin in the earlier post is the one you want. It's made for the job and will go for ever if you maintain it.probably the same price as two el cheapo's

A bit misleading with size of the tank.It is the capacity of the compressor to pump enough air into it,and maintain pressure which is the main consideration.12 cfm may be enough, but 15cfm would guarantee enough air and pressure.
