Not that I care about you jizz but, yes, some of my customers had Alfa 156s. One a 1600 if I remember right) T spark and one high spec one with the 2.5 V6. Just so happens it was the V6 one that the wiring loom failed on burning the car pretty badly. Some of the best mechanics I know are unqualified but some backyarders like yourself also a detriment to the mechanical profession.

Like I said it's Jazz that always spits the dummy first and resorts to name calling. One message board user likened Jazz to 'the motoring board's equivalent of a Jehovah's Witness' constantly trolling the board trying to 'convert' people, hes never wrong because he can always re-convince himself by reading and reciting the good book of Google! If faced by tricky facts or questions from the non believers he simply cry's . 'KNUCKLE DRAGGING TROLLS I"M NOT FEEDING YOU!'

Is that a fact!

Now then children!Lets be honest, any car with 204,000 miles on the clock, is going to need some serious thought before buying it.That applies to all makes, all models and from all countries. That doesn't matter whether they are easy to work on or not. At that mileage, some things wear out sooner rather than later.

Whilst I normally enjoy your posts mostly and think seeing two sides of the argument is good funfrankly you have seriously dropped the ball here Jazz. To refer to someone of the ilk of Carmedic as a "Loud mouthed Troll" is not necessary, rude and arrogant on your part. Sit down, take a deep breath and stop being a pratt. You do not own all knowledge and bluntly are being what you accuse others of.

Meant to be drivers car with the sound etc - but like lot of Italian engineering they would of been better of sticking to making pasta. Those K's are ridiculous for most cars little lone an Alfa - stay well clear and get the most low k-ed car that you like and can afford. In saying all that think they still be fun to drive - just not so ya cheque book.

The wheels on a 2008 Brera spald, warp and the crack at 60k on the dial under usual conditions. This isn't 'normal wear and tear' by modern standards.
There are two Alfa's I would spend money on, an 8c Compitezione or a 33/2 Tipo.
And neither of them I would ever drive.

GTFO. Cars are made for driving.

Lol, not when they're alfa romeos.

Worked on a 155 once. Would rather not do again in my lifetime. The paint that literally just fell off the car was a nice touch.

You have a reading problem - carmedic was the first to pull out the troll comment - see post 14

We are trolls. Anyone who does not have a passion for euro s like jazz is one.

I think it's pathetic how everyone jumps on jazz like a mangy pack of dogs every time he posts. Is everyone that threatened by a differing point of view!

OP was asking about unreliability. Alfa Romeos are bottom of heap when it comes to that.

Prove it.

OP said 204 000ks not miles. Either way, I would happily buy a 4 cylinder Camry with that mileage.

Jazz really belongs working in a Euro car yard in Newmarket. I'm sure he would sell a lot of cars.

"For the fifth year running, Honda topped the rankings as the most trustworthy car manufacturer. Of the 32 companies studied, Land Rover proved the least reliable company - 53% of its cars suffered a fault - followed by Alfa Romeo, Renault, Saab, MG, Vauxhall, Peugeot, Audi, Rover, BMW."
"Warranty Direct least reliable (Jan 2010) 1 Jeep 2 Porsche 3 Landrover 4 Alfa Romeo 5 Chrysler 6 Jaguar 7 Audi 8 MG 9 Mercedes 10 Saab"
I've owned an Alfa 156 for 5 years now. An import with relatively unknown history. Its been fairly reliable but parts andmaintainance costs are high. Cambelts have to be done(manufacturer) every 60-7okm or every 3 years. They handle fantastic and quite a bit of power from a 2 litre. Comfortable to drive. Absolutely no rust problems at all. But you do need to find a garage that knows Alfas and has the right diagnostic equipment and thats not easy. Pricewise they are extremely good value, but ask for a written list of what repairs have been done in the last 2 years.

Have you noticed that Rolls Royce never ever appears in these surveys!
As it is a voluntary survey (UK) and using the usual marketing adage that if people are satisfied, they tell 5 people, if they are dissatisfied they tell 33.; then take into account the numbers of those specific makes sold in the UK, then it is at best a dodgy indicator of anything and certainly not too relevant to NZ.

The other issue is that people are more fussy with high end/more expensive cars. Any little fault you find on your mercedes, you'll be straight back to the dealer. On your geely! - you accept you got what you paid for
mugenb20b,
Apr 15, 7:50pm
Yes. Is that because there are very few compared to other cars (like Ferrari, McLaren, Lamborghini, Pagani, etc)! Or, are they not driven as much as other brands of cars, so the faults may not appear for a while!
Besides, Rolls Royce and Bentley have always been secretive when it came to power, torque and acceleration figures in the past, so I doubt they'll be in any hurry to publicise anything regarding reliability.

Most surveys are either owners, (with a gripe) or even more unreliably, from warranty claims companies, who tend to focus on a narrow range of cars anyway and wil list anything from a blown headlamp to a blown engine in the same category.
As someone who regularly over the last 45 years has purchased cars that 'rate poorly' in these surveys, or get slagged on these message boards, I couldn't care a stuff what others think.I can't ever remember buying a bad car.Ancient Minis when I was much younger and a 60 year old project car, had rust when I purchased them,
The only cars we have purchased that have had rust problems and were passed on were a Honda Civic and a (very) early 1500cc Toyota MR2.
I can't remember any car being unreliable and in the last 20 years, that list includes 2 Rovers, several MGs (3 Montego & 2 MGB & a Metro), and three Freelanders.
