hahahahaha excellent op. Had a memorable trip through the Waioeka Gorge in 1990. Me driving 1990 1600 Corolla rushing to get to an appointment in Rotorua, came up behind 3 Harleys racing each other, gang members. Passed them on one of the straight bits in the gorge and left them in the dust. What fun, True story

A guy who always wanted to own a Harley wins a brand new Fatboy in a contest. He rides around all the time, gunning his throttle, rattling windows and waving at all the other jealous rednecks in the trailer park. One day the other jealous rednecks stop him, they draw a circle in the dirt road and say "If you step out of that circle, we will kick your ass."

They go back over to their tool boxes on their pickup trucks, take out hammers and start busting up his new Fatboy. They look back and he is smiling. They hit the Harley some more, and he is laughing. They walk over to him and ask

"Why are you laughing! We just busted up your new ride, man!"

He says "I know, but I stepped out of the circle 9 times."

Given the number of people that complain about "modern shyte" I would of thought that would be somewhat desirable to many.

Lol - until it comes to NZ roads and suspension.

i-n-horz, Feb 23, 8:06am
Too righty! without the luxury of the latest suspension,brakes,power,weight-
decrease, aerodynamics etc etc that's when rider ability comes into play.not many have ridden the lead sled without some sort of dump to the tarmac mishap.meself 24yrs upright ;)

bounce16, Feb 23, 8:25am
LOLHave to admit I often prefer to ride my old bike over the new one.So much more fun and more of a challenge!

trogedon, Feb 23, 8:35am
On the other hand; I had a guy on a Harley Sportster catch up to me (on my GPX750R) when I (& some guys in our bike club) was riding through a gorge on the way to the East Coast. It was raining and there were bunches of cars so I didn??

pebbles61, Feb 23, 9:11am
Why you gotta hate on lane splitters! at least they stop for the red at the end of queue unlike bicycle riders =D

As for Harleys, it may be 1940's tech for some of the stuff, but they must still sale them if they're still in business. But I wouldn't buy one myself, I dislike cruisers.

i-n-horz, Feb 23, 10:15am
Lol.on the money there bounce.love me ol'bike shake'n 'n' rattle'n and if ya try too hard at push'n her it get's the ol'shpincter clamp'n up for sure.

i-n-horz, Feb 23, 10:18am
Out of all the HD's trog the Sporty I'm told and have seen a few times is the best for chuck'n round the twisties.give a 1200 a tickle-up and she'd do fairly good on the straight stuff too.for an HD that is ;)

stabi360, Feb 23, 2:10pm
i get a few suprised comments when im on my fatbob in the twisties

My only hope was to outbrake him. I held off squeezing the lever until the last instant. I kept my nerve while he lost his. In an instant I was by him. Corner after corner, I could hear the roar of his engine as he struggled to keep up. Three more miles to go before the road straightens out and he would pass me for good.

But now I was in the lead and he would no longer hold me back. I stretched out my lead and by the time we reached the bottom of the canyon, he was more than a full corner behind. I could no longer see him in my rear-view mirror.

Once the road did straighten out, it seemed like it took miles before he passed me, but it was probably just a few hundred yards. I was no match for that kind of horsepower, but it was done. In the tightest section of road, where bravery and skill count for more than horspower and deep pockets, I had passed him. though it was not easy, I had won the race to the bottom of the canyon and I had preserved the proud tradition of another of America's best bikes.

I will always remember that moment. I don't think I've ever pedaled so hard in my life

AYE.

really! your poor mans goldwing has a tad more weight and less hp and nm than a 1250 v-rod.not to mention you dont ride an st.you drive it.

un_known, Feb 24, 3:28pm
What are u on about!

trogedon, Feb 24, 4:13pm
An ST1300 isn't trying to be a V-Rod or a Goldwing.

gunhand, Feb 24, 4:26pm
egg zac ary. Each bike has a purpose and and comparing a St 1300 to a V Rod is no comparrison at all. Totaly different bikes for totally different riding.
You need to compare a ST with a Street Glide or an Electric Glide or similar. Or a V Rod with a GSXR1000, ZX10, R1 or a BMWK1200S But probably a Haybausa or ZX14 would be a beater comparison.
But im sure a very good rider on ST oran XR 200 could show up a V Rod. Just like a good rider on a V Rod could show up a Poor rider on GSXR1000.

desmodave, Feb 24, 4:46pm
What do ya mean.Dont ya know like.

sabbath-black, Feb 24, 6:52pm
.who said it was.he was saying his st thing could beat any harley.a v-rod is a harley.

i-n-horz, Feb 24, 7:51pm
They both look to be set-up specifically for drag racing and not a V-Rod to my knowledge but a Destroyer Vs Hayabusa, maybe the Destroyer has a similar power-plant to a V-Rod.

How is it Darley Davidsons are allowed on the road with such noisy exhausts! A pox on them all.

i-n-horz, Apr 22, 10:26am
They're not legally if they're above what the law dictates.they just choose to enjoy the sound of their motorcycle at the expense of others and possibly their wallet if caught or charged.

whqqsh, Apr 22, 10:27am
you dug up a 2 month old thread for this!

clark20, Apr 22, 10:43am
You must have not gone to Sunday school

sandndude, Apr 22, 2:28pm
You could have passed the Harley on a skate board or a beach tractor, either's faster.

i-n-horz, Apr 22, 5:25pm
Better still.on a cloud from a wet fart.
