Need help in finding out what's wrong

crazycowe, Apr 27, 12:04pm
I have a honda inspire I,ve had it for 5 yrs (1st owner) nowthe prob is when I driving down the road my steering wheel shakes like anythingwould it be the tryes which have been recently balanced bck in nov or could it be my steering rack going. please help before I go & spend a heap of dollars on it thanks

November is not "recent". first port of call is a tyre shop to make sure they are balanced. A weight may havesimply come off one of the wheels

Take it back to the tyre place, describe the problem, they will more than likely check it fro free. Sounds like it could be loose wheel nuts.

cvrazycowe could you be more precise with the timeline.
IEthe wheels were balanced in November--when did the steering start to shake! What state are your tyres in NOW!

The tryes were new from firestone back in november & they were balance there as well I went up on a drive to the top of the north island in december . they were shakey before I had gone up but ok during the drive now it's happening again.tryes on the back need to be replace anytime now

Ive checked all the weights on the front tryes they all still there they hve pumped to normal pressure

could be a bulge in the tyre

At what speed does the problem manifest itself!

Low speed (30-40km/h) is probably a seperated tyre. Higher speed (80km/h plus) probably balancing.

If a small one was missing would you be able to tell! Not being rude but there could be/have been more than one on any one wheel.

nightboss, Apr 27, 12:50pm
Either way - take it back to tyre shop.
They will do full safety check on each wheel/tyre.
Last thing they want is their name associated with bad workmanship or faulty tyres.
They can visually inspect all over each wheel and tyre then put each wheel on balancer and safely test.

Thinking the same as Tony. Had a couple of tires go "out of round" over the years. Swap them 1 at a time for the spare and see if problem desists or into Tyre supplier. Could be replaced for free under Firestones warranty- maybe

tyres

You haven't stated the speed you are travelling at when this occurs.Or is the problem happening when you use the brakes. Some more info would be good. From what you have said, the fault is intermittent, that is, not there on the drive but problem there before and after.

crazycowe, Apr 27, 6:43pm
It is shakey when I start at 20km & the shaking gets worse higher the speed

beast9, Apr 27, 6:46pm
differently sounds like a bulge in a tyre or out of balance

tonyrockyhorror, Apr 27, 11:24pm
20km/h isn't fast enough for balancing to affect it. It'll be a separated tyre.
