Why do garages say they are going to ring you

texastwo, Apr 28, 11:31am
when your car is ready and never do! Or, if they do, its at 10 to 5 and you cannot get there in time.I remember my mechanic uncle's favourite trick was to have the car sitting there all day and then take a wheel off it at 4.30 and say we are waiting for parts!

Why do customers say they will drop their car off at 8.30 only to dock up at 11.00 and still expect it back at lunch time!

Why do customers have a cry when they are failed for bald tyres that have metal sticking out.

msigg, Apr 28, 11:52am
Because they don't want you to know how long the job took and how important it is in relation to the others cars they are fixing as well. ie they may have one come in that they fix straight away to get the work while they already have yours . Also they can just be very busy.

Really bugs me this 1. If a customer of mines books in for wof at say 8:30 am and dont show up untill 9:30 i just bump them down the list untill i have a spare 1/2hr and if not done when they get back i say to them i have other customers who showed up on time and they come 1st as i have a schedule for the day.

If I'm 100% confident the car is going to be ready the following day, I always ring the customer the previous evening and sort out a time that best suits them to collect their vehicle.

Makes it easier then, for me to arrange what cars need early morning attention or afternoon attention etc.

never had it. my mechanic is great, drop it off in the morning before they open - keys in key box, vehicle is always ready to go at 4pm, if major work is required, they ring by 2pm and let us know the car wont be ready till the following day, they even allow us to pay all major work off as well with no interest, great guys, company and a pleasure to deal with.

What I hate are the one's who say they want their car by 4.30pm. So you work your butt off trying to achieve that - dealing with incorrect parts, parts that have to come from another branch, lost couriers and just keeping the rest of the workshop flowing along. Then they don't turn up, and don't even ring to say they can't make it. So they turn up at 3pm the next day and say ''Can I pay for it next week!''

That happens to us all the time (except for the bill part). Every bloody thing is "urgent". Yeah right.

Waited in all day today for the windscreen fitter to arrive. No call; no answer on his mobile either.Last week, waiting in all evening for the sewing machine mechanic who said he'd be here 5:30pm.Rang him the following day and he'd gone to his grand daughter's prizegiving.

In the days when we didn't have a telephone or these tradespeople didn't have mobiles, I could understand it, but not today.

Totally mucked up my schedules as I was going to take the car down to HD for a test run.No chance now, as off working overseas.

why do you go in for a quote on a cbelt job and they never ring back so you end up doing yourself lol their loss!

bella-boo, Apr 29, 7:18am
Well, if everyone else is having a bitch fest.

Took hubbies ute to get new windscreen.Got there ON TIME, got back 4 hours later to pick up ON TIME, took it on school camp and got to experience the first rain in it since new screen - only to find they hadnt sealed it along bottom edge.Kids had wet bags and feet by the time I could find some windscreen sealant.Grrr.

Another time auto electrician had my car. They said bring it in on Wednesday and we will have it back to you by the weekend.TWO WEEKS LATER, after me ringing at 4pm every day for updates that they had promised to give me at 3pm daily. Not impressed that it took so long to put in a new alternator and connect the central locking to the alarm.Dunno how I got shoved so far down the list!Have had the car back in twice to fix other minor probs resulting from their work.Grrrr.

I do expect that if I'm late the job will be done late.

Because they think they are our only customer & all the other cars in the carpark are invisible-we get it all the time to & the reaction you get when you tell them it will be ready at the end of the day is priceless

texastwo, Apr 29, 11:10am
Yeah I can sympathise but my car has been at the garage for 5 days and they promised to ring each day and never did

h2oldragon, Apr 29, 11:21am
Maybee they are so busy fixing cars that they can't call to say nothing has happened.

paul271, Apr 29, 4:05pm
I can see both sides of the coin. I try and call people to keep them in the loop, but it IS time consuming, and people dont always answer thier phones (think females with mobiles in thier handbags. :-). It is good practice to keep your customers in the know, but sometimes mechanics get REALLY busy, and when you are under stress to get the jobs done, we struggle to make calls (especially when your hands are covered in crap!)
