Ain't it funny how the young-uns run but the old boy just keeps calm and sorts it LOL.
I had an old Mazda van that did that once, i just got out, crossed the street & let the piece of poo kill itself.

I know, it happend to me once when i was yonger with a bike, i was push starting it and the throttle jammedopen so i pulled the clutch in and dropped it on the ground because i had no killswitch hooked up and no way of stoping it, and my mate at the time ran over and tried to pull the sparkplug lead of but he kept on jumping back and forth and pussey footing around, and i was packing myself just as much as he was, but i cared alot about engines back then so i yelled at him to get the f out of the way, and i walked right up to it and grabed the lead with a firm grip not careing if it belted me or not and got it of in one go, then later on in life it happened to my old hillman hunter, because it jammed on a stuped bit of wire i had to hold the choke on, and it stuck on full while i was under the hood, and i calmly jumped back in it and turned it off, and all i remember thinking was how awesome it sounded at full speed lol.

If they knew anything about Jimmy's, they have a strangler under the super for exactly that problem. Flip a spring loaded lever and it shuts down.

No, 2 strokeDetroit diesel not GMC's. It just happens this one is in a GMC.

Probably dosent help when you pour half a can of engine start down its throat like they did.

A runaway diesel is a scary thing to be around - but being a 2 stroke it was probably only doing 2,000rpm. It didn't like the ether, and he was pouring so much into it I reckon it's kicked back and run in reverse.and therefore no governor control.

It's not running backwards as the inlet is still sucking and the exhaust gases are still going out the exhaust, most likely throttle control stuck wide open or governer stuck open, or its running on sump oil.

Agree, worst thing you can put in them, they become addicted to it.

My old hunter done a major rev bakwards once after it was running real rough, but it didnt sound anything like the truck though, it just spewed a whole lot of smoke out the carberator so it must have been sucking from the exhaust, it did a fair amount or revs backwards though for about 30 seconds.

They can also draught oil up from the sump and start to run on that some of those old 2 strokes, and without a strangler they will increase rev's untill they destroy themselves.

There are still 2 stroke diesels made, but they are not common. By far the majority are 4 stroke
Exactly! havent had that prob on mine yet touch wood!

The new DL locos from China have 2.7MW German built MTU 20V 4000R43 engine's, they are 95.4 liter, V20 4 stroke diesels.

I am actually wrong with that statement, GM originally made Detroits back in 1937 but in 1965 they became Detroit diesels, the "jimmy" name would have come from when they were made by GM, in 2006 MTU bought detroit diesel and 2 stroke Detroits are still made brand new to this day.
