Dont get caught like I nearly did

gypsypom, May 15, 5:09pm
the keyless entry remote on a car I just bought only worked sometimes and finally stopped working, I put in new battery still nothing, the guy at the key place in the mall said it is not sending a signal, so that told me it was the remote not the unit in the car, was told $189 for a replacement. I went home and took it to bits, heated it up under a desk lamp till it got real hot and presto! works a treat. dont ask me why, maybe some of the techo can

psx_man, May 15, 5:12pm
Dry soldier. The heat would of fixed the contact

gammelvind, May 15, 5:18pm
A dry soldier like those at the Waiuru pub after a long hot tramp.

gypsypom, May 15, 5:19pm
Yea maybe, but I only got it hot from the light bulb, which was real hot to touch, but not hot enough to melt the solder

a.woodrow, May 15, 5:30pm
Solder starts to soften at suprisingly low temperature, a light bulb would be sufficient to soften and improve connections

gypsypom, May 15, 5:34pm
I tried it again just now and it still works fine, just goes to show a bit of experimenting and a saving of $189 bucks, it was worth the try

ttgirl, May 15, 5:34pm
Sure does, an old computer operators trick.

Off subject a bit.

I got caught out with my first key-less car. If you unlocked the car but did not open the door the car would lock itself after 1 min but thats only the drivers door. I unlocked the car opened the passengers door and reached over put the keys in and started the car got out and shut the door. The car locked on me with the engine going - bugger!

#8- Wife unlocked boot, put key on boot floor while loading shopping, shut boot which auto locked as doors were still locked.

fordcrzy, May 15, 6:38pm
in other words you got the remote wet and shorted it out.once dried out it now works

timmo1, May 16, 5:46am
My girlfriend did that last year.in northern California, in a rental car, in a campground miles away from anywhere with all our stuff still in the cat as it was getting dark. Spare key! Rental company in all its wisdom had wired the main key and the spare key together so if you lost one you lost them both. As luck would have it, someone else was having car troubles in that campground at the same time and a towie turned up a few minutes after had ordered our one- he was kind enough to break in for free

Waiouru

kazbanz, May 16, 12:57pm
gypsypom -I hear this exact same story regularly. But usually the people remember dropping their keys or getting wet walking to the car.
Basicly 2 things happen.-Things get jolted by the impact and moisture gets inside the remote.-dry it out and bingo.
Incidently your problem is exactly why I recommend avs A4 remotes.-waterproof remotes

I was once one of those dry soldiers at the oasis, and the hot Tramp was a nurse from the waiouru military hospital, true story, I got CB for 3 days for goingAWOL

gypsypom, May 16, 1:40pm
No never got it wet

trogedon, May 16, 1:53pm
Hahaha.
My wife locked herself and our boys out of our car last week. I've hidden a key out the outside of each of our (going) cars so she just had to get someone with a screwdrive and she was sorted.

mothergoose_nz, May 16, 6:58pm
my daughter locked the key in the boot. must be a common one.i just lock the keys in the car plain and simple. have learned the hard way over the years.

been there, done that - unlocked boot only, put shopping in boot, shut boot with keys in

captaingraham, May 17, 7:05am
The key for my new Suzuki went through the washing machine by accident. Was it stuffed. No. opened it up and no moisture inside. Well done Suzi.
