You will probably need an engineers cert after the repair, I would find out what repair and cert will cost before you splash out on the inspection

would have been written off for a reason. Given that it's been de-reg it would need a proper repair cert before it can be re-registered.

Yes it is, stoved in the side of a double cab ute good and proper .

a few hours with a hydralic jack and ballpien hammer got it all out again, two new doors and some paint. never had an issue yet.

Secondly, they dont make them any more so yeah keep it and repair it

was it de-reg by an insurance company! if not, fix it good and proper so you cant tell and then re comply it

Only time they dont dereg is when they are selling the "wreck" back to the owner as part of the settlement. All about getting a higher value replacement insured so they get more money.

A lot of guessing going on here - need all the facts.

If it's an insurance dereg - then it will be in the system, and need a repair cert before re-compliance.
If it's just been pranged and rego lapsed, then repair it properly and have it re-complied. Wink wink.

Why do they deregister cars that look very repairable!

a18a, May 15, 8:05am
i'd like to know that too. they'd most likely get more money for them if they sold them with live plates.

They are compelled to by law. I'm not sure what the criteria is though because they do sell some still registered. Stolen and recovered vehicles used to stay registered if they weren't damaged and there is a trader that disposes of damaged motorcycles on here that often has registered bikes for auction even though they are insurance disposals. I think the damage has to be non-structural.
