My idle has recently been fluctuating up and down, so iv decided to clean the throttle body and IAC valve to see it it helps. Any tips on this! can i clean it with the throttle body in place! or is it better to take it off and clean it. Im going to use CRC "clean r carb", is that ok!

Try that first - without removing throttle body - perhaps trying to get some squirted directly down the IACV intake.A couple of Toyotas I've done, it didn't really work, and unfortunately that meant pulling the throttle body to get access to the IACV, and that meant pulling coolant hoses running to the throttle body - still not too bad a job - but an hour or so mucking around.

time isnt an issue, so il probably just take off the throttle body and iac valve to clean it properly. Should i just spray lots of the cleaner inside the tb and iac and then let it dry!

go to Supercheap and get "nulon throttle body cleaner" its in a blue aerosol can cost about $10 work wonders better than carb cleaner as its too harsh esp with airflow meters etc use proper throttle body cleaner. also there is heaps of videos on youtube showing you how to do it. By the way you will notice a difference for the better

If you're going to pull the throttle body to get at the IACV, then get in there with carb cleaner - give it a spray, spray some carb cleaner in the bottom of a jar, and use that with a small brush to scrub all the gunk out, and spray again to clean it all off.
I see the post above suggesting an alternative product - don't disagree, but the AFM (wire type) will probably be above/separate from the throttle body, so you won;t be spraying that.(That said, I've used carb cleaner to sort out AFM with no problems)

I have always used Brakleen as it also burns well.cleans really well, and can use it on brakes AND as a drycleaner on oil stained clothes!

Dont dry out a IACV lube it - within reason

CRC Brakleen is no good, and Clean R Carb isn't much better. Wynns Brakecleaner is what I've always used, otherwise the nulon throttle body cleaner suggested before would be second choice

Why don't you first find out which valve it is.
