Yep, I sometimes think that the "designer's" son in law was a mechanic. I do a lot of clutch jobs myself, mostly 4WD utes, pricks of things (not hard, just awkward), especially Mazdas, because the gearbox sits at an angle, so the useful flat surface that you need underneath, suddenly makes your life a nightmare. Another shit one is a Nissan Terrano, the torsion bar front suspension needs to come out.

yeap the firewall mount was an absolute bitch. Not looking forwards to putting it back in, thats for sure. Any tips!
I found that access to anything in this vehicle is hampered by useless things like plastic encased wiring looms and other silly things that shouldn't really be there. Why they decided to mount the engine off the gearbox is beyond me, why not make gearbox independent, it would make it much easier!
Aye try an alfa romeo, one of those early alfasud things, have to drop the engine to get to the top bell housing bolts

Hehe somewhere in my toolbox I have special part no 9661 - a15mm spanner i cut the end off and bent over to fit in the mount. I know it was supposed to be a 14 mm but I wasn't prepared to sacrifice the 14

This car was pretty much nana driven on the clutch which was new 6 months ago, then a noob manual driver thought it would be cool to do a burnout. Doesn't look like it was the wheels spinning! Perhaps he will respect other people's cars a bit better now

Mig! what do you think I am! Professional it must be! I've got a stick of knead-it here which will do the job nicely.

I have heard it alleged that the X-member that gets in the way can be forced down with the torsion bars in place and a couple of wooden blocks wedged in somehow to make enough space for the box to come out.

Tried towing my mates mazda B1600 uphill from a standing start in my pa's MKIV cortina once. Through all the smoke there was indeed flames coming out of the bellhousing.
Cooled it off, got another 50k out of that thing before he traded it.

morrisman1, does your name imply an interest in Morris motor vehicles!
The same Morris that decides to put the brake fluid reservoir in the floorboards of a Minor!

Most front drive head work & or clutch changes isn't easy, removing suspension, engine mounts & multiple connections is standard fair. Job is a 5 spanner difficulty rating 4 sure.

servicing the morry brake master cylinder is easy, as long as the guy who installed it put the nuts on the outside of the car. If they put the bolts on the outside then you have to take the torsion bar off to get it out!

Can't yoy just cut the heads off the bolts and then put the new ones in the other way!
